Liverpool - the city

Liverpool One wasn't built last time I was there so it's been a while. It's a great city for a few days away.

Do they still have the yellow duck tours?

Being a big Beatles fan I think Liverpool is a great City. And regardless of the Beatles connection there’s plenty of places to see and visit round the waterfront.

Might be my imagination but the centre seems more compact than Manchester which is good if shopping and bars are your thing.

Always found locals friendly but then again I don’t go round in a MCFC replica top. Never been to Anfield and never want to.

Manchester's Museums and galleries are spread all over the city centre and Salford Quays. Liverpool's museums and galleries tend be be located around the waterfront area. Unfortunately for Manchester visitors and tourists have to make an effort to visit all the museums and galleries.

What Liverpool has over Manchester and always will have is the waterfront and all it's attractions. Manchester will never be able to compete with that or better it.

As for galleries, museums and theatres, Manchester has caught up with Liverpool, with the recent additions of Home and Factory International (under construction), alongside the redeveloped Manchester Museum, the redeveloped Science and Industry Museum, the IWMN, the National Football Museum, the Lowry Art gallery, etc. Mancunians are quite ignorant of the galleries, museums and theatres that the City has to offer.
I think my judgement of my home city is always clouded by the walk from piccadilly, down the approach , past picc ‘gardens’ and onto market street.
I tend swerve that direction as much as i can but a visitor wont know to avoid and as a gateway to our city its nothing short of a fuckin disgrace

And, guessing here, I'd imagine (all the pee-pul) that if you wear your Citeh shirt on a night out in the city centre, you'll be assured of a warm scouse welcome.
Picture Eastlands Asda one Saturday afternoon. A bald man in a grey tracksuit began to shout abuse at me as I walked in. I took my earphone out and it was all “Don’t wear that shirt round here. Liverpool’s that way. Fuck off you Scouse prick.” The lady he was with grabbed him by his arm to drag him away.

It was a Wales home jersey on me.

Ah now; be fair. Wales is full of Mickeys, it's an easy mistake to make.

;-)

Remove the whole stupid scouse/manc thing and any footballing rivalry, its a great place to visit being a local myself.

Walker Art gallery, slavery museum, maritime museum, Albert dock, a few different Beatles tours/walks (if your into that). The Pier Head. Way too many good quality pubs to mention if you stay away from the real touristy places and some great places to eat.

The 2 cathedrals are a good shout, especially the Anglican cathedral which I think is the biggest in Britain. The Georgian quarter is great.

The hidden gem of Western Approaches in Exchange Flags is worth a visit too if your into war history.

Other than that, its not a big city so you can see a lot in a day. Some fantastic architecture to see as your walking around. There is something for everyone
