Liverpool - the city

Merseyrail absolutely shits all over the Mcr rail network and Metrolink.

A full days travel for less than £6.
Nice places to visit by train are New Brighton, West Kirby, Southport and even gets you to Chester.

Detest the feral Scouse bus wreckers but they have great museums (World Museum particularly) on the waterfront and the station.

They have some of the best pubs in the country e.g. The Lion, the White Star and Roscoe Head, and fans of derelict pubs (there are some) will enjoy a walk north to Bootle.

Merseyrail day pass will get you to Crosby and the Iron Men on the beach or the craft bars at New Brighton.

I'ts a long time since I spent an evening there, 30 years or so ago now since I had a scouse girlfriend, but I always enjoyed my time there and I found the people just as friendly as they are in any other northern town or City.

We had no problems,

Love Liverpool......went everywhere year (pre-covid) for about 6 years for a piss up around my brother in laws birthday. Never an ounce of trouble and always a top weekend.

Completely different vibe from town, where you feel that it could kick off at anypoint.

The waterfront is the obvious place, some fantastic buildings down there. Outside the city, if the weather is good, Crosby beach is nice with the Gormley statues.

Depending on where you're staying, Lark Lane near Sefton Park has some great independent bars and restaurants (or at least it did pre-Covid, not been recently)
Lark Lane is still what you describe, mate.

great city, fun vibe, the slavery and other museums on the docks are decent and the city centre generally has a ok feel. British city at the end of the day, but it's better than a lot of them.

My first night temporarily living in Wavertree was funny. I’d been in a Greene King pub for maybe ten minutes and this lad who reeked of Scouse twat ordered a beer. His card declined so he used another. That declined too so he used another. That declined. He then starting asking around if anyone could pay for it. Someone sadly said they could put in on his tab but then was told to drink it and leave.

I must admit to the fact that, the best part of every single visit is the moment when the train finally departs Slime Street Station!
