Liverpool - the city

Liverpool is very much more the working class city than Manchester is now. Good work opportunities has significantly improved life quality for many Mancs whilst Liverpool falters behind.

I’m glad I don’t live there because there’s only so much of the sanctimonious pricks you can tolerate. Salt of the earth this and dead friendly lad. It’s a handy city to have over the water but I don’t spend much time there.

Ill second all the museums on the albert dock. They are excellent. If youre eating round the docks BOOK!

I think liverpool as a city shits all over manchester im afraid.

Manchester's Museums and galleries are spread all over the city centre and Salford Quays. Liverpool's museums and galleries tend be be located around the waterfront area. Unfortunately for Manchester visitors and tourists have to make an effort to visit all the museums and galleries.

What Liverpool has over Manchester and always will have is the waterfront and all it's attractions. Manchester will never be able to compete with that or better it.

As for galleries, museums and theatres, Manchester has caught up with Liverpool, with the recent additions of Home and Factory International (under construction), alongside the redeveloped Manchester Museum, the redeveloped Science and Industry Museum, the IWMN, the National Football Museum, the Lowry Art gallery, etc. Mancunians are quite ignorant of the galleries, museums and theatres that the City has to offer.

Cracking city. In the mid 80’s I went out more there than Manchester. In those days there was rarely any trouble around town, unlike Manchester. Lots of great nights out and I once got offered a pint when a local spotted my City badge! Wouldn’t happen now though.

Great architecture and sound people, when not talking football!

Maybe in the city centres I’d agree, but outside of the city centre Manchester has large levels of poverty and is very much still a working class city.

From my experience both city’s have benefited massively from Investment - new buildings and business.

I’d actually say I feel a lot safer in Liverpool centre than Manchester, where it regular kicks off or some kind of crime is happening - Piccadilly gardens

Last time I drove through Liverpool I ended up with a dead pigeon wedged behind my radiator on my Citroen BX. I'd driven off the overnight ferry from Belfast and hit the bird just getting off the docks on my way to the M62. It fell out about a week later, absolutely stinking. That was around 1998. I haven't been back since.

I know this thread will probably get shot down in flames but we're staying over for a couple of nights over Easter. What are the main tourist attractions before I do some Google research. Put the football to the back of your minds please as I've heard good things about the City in general. Thanks!
Tourist attractions? Hmm, let's see. The two cathedrals, I guess. And, I suppose, the Cavern Club. Er; Pier Head, and the Liver Building (if the basta locals haven't set it on fire). The Ford factory in Halewood, if that's your thing (not sure you'll get inside it, though). The site of the Blue Mickeys new stadium, at Bramley Dock. Though, again, you won't get in there.
