Liverpool - the city

New Brighton across the water is ok for a visit. It's a short train journey from Lime Street or St.James. The promenade walk gives some good views of Liverpool waterfront. Theres a couple of decent boozers over there and a great Turkish restaurant.
I bet the Turkish restaurant was one we wanted to go in but the queue was too big and our train was due 2 hours later

It's quite grand as the buildings were built on the slave trade. Manchester is more modest as it was built on the toil of local people. I stopped going after the 2014 match for any social reasons but went to Goodison and Anfield for games once each pre Covid. I won't go at all now due to the coach attack. I have decided I eon't give them my money. The girls are great though. It's the men.

It’s actually ok for a day out and some good boozers. Ignore the tossers on here who’ve never been but slag it off because of a football team. Don’t go on Monday like I did as the museums close (world, Liverpool and maritime). Went to world museum a previous time and that was good. Got 2 cathedrals worth a visit plus Albert Dock for bars and restaurants and Tate Gallery (I didn’t enjoy that - too much weird ‘art’). Good boozer for choice of ales is Ship and Mitre by World museum although it’s a bit of an old dump. Bold Street seemed to be the trendy place to socialise. Had a nice meal in a seafood restaurant - https://aquapodliverpool.co.uk/.
a lot of places were queuing out of the door on a winter Monday teatime when we went
Some beautiful buildings/architecture too.

Bold Street. Went to a Lebanese restaurant. Can’t remember the name but it was very good.

Philharmonic pub opposite Philharmonic hall.

As mentioned in another post, Bold Street bars and restaurants are good. There’s a nice German drinking establishment now. Some good shops too.

Ranelagh Street is lively too. I only really shop in Liverpool and just use it for travel elsewhere. Wirral people are very much not Scousers…
If you’re going to ‘the other side’ how about getting the train to the end of the line at West Kirby? Half an hour - time it right & as well as a stroll around the marina you can also get to Hilbre Island (and hopefully get back too if the tides are favourable!).
Or yeah, go the whole hog & come to Chester for the day.
