I'd say he's been our clear player of the year for what's that's worth. Which is saying something when we've had a slew of them right across the team.
He's been outstanding in three different positions (we went through a large period after Fabinho had been totally bossing it early before his lengthy absence, where nobody even thought of him down to Jordan playing to such a high level dropping back into his role) and is the perfect leader, on and off the field, that you could wish for. But he's not a 'MOTD' highlight reel player and many people who don't watch him closely (why would they if he's not at your club?), don't realise just how vitally integral he is to our side and just what a quality footballer he is in what he does. And one of the hardest working players the entire league over who's self sacrificed himself for the past few years playing completely out of position, before now moving back to his more natural role. Trent wouldn't be able to do all he does without Jordan's relentless dropping in and covering of that side for example as Mo is never going to work back to any significant degree. (Not that you'd want him to.).
So I get why he's totally under-appreciated by the general football fan. And whether that's enough to have him as the OTY without the flashy goals and assists stats that many default to is open to subjective opinion. (I never put too much credence on these awards anyway personally these days. They're all popularity contests in the main. See the 'Messi/ Ronaldo axis for the Ballon d'Or.).
I just know how he underpins most everything we do and is the key driving force of setting the tempo of our play 9 times out of 10 and we're a lot weaker side when he's not leading the team.
