VVD is very good but he’s not what makes Liverpool tick. Injuries to your fullbacks would be catastrophic for the way you play. I also believe and saw it last night that Robertson makes VVD look better, his ability/pace to recover and make last ditch blocks and clearances is ignored because of his contribution going forward. VVD isn’t that vital imho
I agree. Sheff utd are the only team to figure that out so far. He went 3-5-2 and pushed his wing backs right up forcing the Liverpool full backs to hold and it nearly worked.

June 2017: Liverpool Football Club would like to put on record our regret over recent media speculation regarding Southampton Football Club and player transfers between the two clubs,” said the statement. “We apologise to the owner, board of directors and fans of Southampton for any misunderstanding regarding Virgil van Dijk. We respect Southampton’s position and can confirm we have ended any interest in the player

July 2017: Liverpool escape FA punishment for alleged tapping up of Van Dijk, further details not released.

September 2017: Liverpool fined £100k and banned from signing youth players for two years, one suspended, after being found guilty of tapping up 13 year old schoolboy from Stoke City. The investigation proved Liverpool had intentionally doctored documents to mislead the FA.

December 2017: Liverpool announce signing of Van Dijk less than six months after officially ending their interest in the player.

October 2019: Liverpool asked to explain alleged payment of £1m to Manchester City in relation to claims of having their rivals scouting system.
Former City employees Dave Fallows and Julian Ward are accused of logging into City’s Scout7 database “hundreds of times” after they left the Etihad for Anfield. Fallows– now Liverpool’s head of recruitment – and Ward – the Reds’ loan pathways and football partnerships manager allegedly used City scout Rob Newman’s account without him knowing between June 2012 and February 2013. Michael Edwards– now Liverpool’s sporting director – is also alleged to have been involved. Outcome pending.

October 2019: Liverpool fined £200k, half suspended, after fielding an ineligible player in a EFL Carabao Cup tie.

December 2019: Liverpool appeal FA decision to not allow the club to wear FIFA World Champions badges in their Premier League shirts, a mid-season shirt alteration rule all Premier League clubs are aware of.

I just don't understand the media love for them? Constantly underhand tactics to get an edge, then crying foul whenever the wind blows against them.

Pretty simple to understand. They have more fans that any other team other than the rags so the media pander to them as they do the rags. I don’t think it’s personal. Just economic sense.

Surely the number of fans who support other clubs and are sick to the back teeth of united this and liverpool that, form a big enough audience to counteract that ?

I believe it's an establishment thing. United and Liverpool are football's establishment and anything that undermines that is subversive and dangerous.

Sadly it's based on economic marketing. The 2 premier league cash cows - Liverpool and the rags - have a vast global follower base which generates huge amounts of revenue for the premier league and thousands of peripheral industries such as the media. The more the media promotes them and their interests the better they are likely to do and the better they do the more money they generate for themselves and all the peripherals. The followers believe all the media promotion guff to the point of utter delusion - hence everyone despises them regardless of how good they are on the pitch.

Meanwhile the tribal nature of football is such that all the other clubs operate in isolation, happy to take their slice of the premier league profits.

The money to be made selling to the pre-brainwashed fans of Asia and other global places must be kept up, those two clubs were sold as the best football teams with Real and Barca the culprits in the media companies want to keep this going because it's served them well over the last few decades.
Hence the big 4 morphing into the big six.

And we used to call the dipper fans deluded.

They are winning matches by playing the sort of football that wins matches. They chase everything like we once did. They switch directly from defence to attack at high speed. They don’t part like the fcukin Red Sea when any pub team attacks them. They can cross the ball and have people who can head it.

Yes, we play the nicer football on our day but this season they are hungrier, better motivated, better organised and far more consistent than us.

TBF though, even a broken clock is right once every 30 years.

I'm afraid you are right. No one plays better football than us in full flow, but they have developed the most effective style even if its not as easy on the eye. Still pure ****s mind.

Absolutely, including the ****s bit.

Still think we’ll be back next season but - after a long time in waiting - this really is their year.

They’re World and European champions, soon to be PL champions. You think they give a flying fcuk about that?

I was talking about the manner of winning the PL. Of course, it matters whether they will break records and how many of them.

Let's see how we fare in the other competitions. We might play them in the FA Cup or the CL. How we do in those competitions will determine who is having the better season. We won the domestic treble and they the CL and for many people they had the better season. Same with Real when they were winning the CL and Barca the domestic trophies.

The only people who thought Liverpool had the better season last season were wind-up merchants.

It’s good to see a bit of recognition amongst you of what this Liverpool team is achieving. I know not only myself & mates but also loads of match going reds were in awe of Man City last season & the centurion season. The team you have there really is a machine. The way they play with attacking flair is a joy to watch which is why we’re taking nothing for granted now.
The shouts of conspiracies & help from officials however makes you come across as .... well,.....small team mentality. If you can’t enjoy boss footy in any shape or form you’re missing the point.
Thanks. We know what our team is capable of playing like at its best as we do yours, when your best man is officiating.

Its not losing the title that rankles , its the fact the Dippers are now starting a 19 game victory tour of the country , we have a responsibility to defend our title with pride and passion and we have rolled over this season. Never thought i would see a team coached by Pep just lay down like we have in some games this season , Kompany leaving has left a far bigger hole than anyone can imagine , its the only major change to the treble winning team in the last 6 months. Boy do we miss the big man.

Since I don't really post in here I'll state at the outset that I'm a Liverpool fan.

However I'm not really sure if it'd make much difference to my thoughts in that I believed last season both City and Liverpool would have traded titles/trophies/whatever anyone wants to name them.

For most big clubs the CL seems to be the priority. However I remember our last league winning team/squad and we've never had a team with the consistency to take that final step to winning the league. Simply because of the time passed since our last league title I would have preferred to have won the PL last year and would prioritise it this year if it came to that.

On the other hand if City focus on the CL they have at least as good a chance of anyone else of winning it. If you play to your best there aren't many teams that could keep up with you. Ironically your issue this year seems to be the consistency that we've suffered with (before anyone complains I fully aware between the gulf in quality between your squad and the vast majority of ours over the past 30 years so I'm just generalising and not saying it's the exact same thing).

Without trying to sound condescending when you win the CL (and I believe you will at some stage in the next few years) you can then decide which you prefer.

Likewise it's been so long since I've seen Liverpool win the league it'll be like a new feeling for all of us (if we win. Until it's no longer mathematically possible I can't allow myself to hope or dream too much having been burnt too many times over the years) and so I imagine it will be the exact same situation as when you win the CL.

I'm certain that members of both teams will prefer one over the other and not exactly agree with each other but that's just part of the reason we all love this game.

Of course I do not have any ideas of what any of you would prefer but in my opinion you've just won the PL twice with truly ridiculous stats and with an exceptional style of playing. You'd won the league before Pep came in. I always figured he was here to take you to next step in Europe.

I can't imagine too many of you here will be that upset at the end of the season if Liverpool have won the league but you go on to win the CL.

-disclaimer: I'm wrong about many, many things so please go easy I'd I am just coming across as an idiot.
And just in case it is another few years until I post again a very belated Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

Glenn
