Exactly the same place you were before the Moores family bank rolled your club in the 60's & 70's , before the Littlewoods investment you were a nothing club , and exactly where your over hyped football club has been for the last fifteen years , its all relative isnt it ? Enjoy your day in the sun and dont forget the sunglasses , you need to be careful after fifteen years living under a rock.

We’ve won two European Cups in that period and been in two other finals. That’s better than any other British club in that time. You don’t get there living under rocks. By your own logic, surely it’s you having a day in the sun, the Sheikh’s been here across two decades where ours spans much further. I’m not looking for a row, just seems a daft example to pick.

I want us to win the league, of course I do. I’m old enough to have seen us win it and we’ve got a great chance this year. But winning the European Cup is like nothing else. And Madrid is hardly perspective, look at the other perceived heavyweights in the European standings. Only Milan in front of us, another club steeped in EC history. Every elite club in Europe gears their season towards the CL, us and you included. I want that league badly but I’d be just as happy if we won the CL again. Nothing like it.

In the words of Luke Skywalker “ everything in that sentence is wrong”

What exactly? Do you think that your coach, board and players see the Champions League as some kind of secondary consolation type prize? If you do, you’re stark raving mad. They didn’t bring Guardiola here just to win the league every year, they wanted his pedigree with the Big Cup. The players and the manager will be desperate for it. For what it’s worth, one of us two will win it this year though.

I’m not sure I agree with the bit in bold, tbh. I think the priority for most teams, in competitive leagues at least, is their domestic title first and foremost. Obviously the CL is huge too, but ultimately it’s a knock out competition whereby the best team doesn’t necessarily always win. I’m sure we would love to win it as much as you’d love to win the league, but I think you’re being a bit disingenuous claiming that we both gear our seasons towards it.

You have to be the most neutral person in the world. I think you may be a robot tbh. :-)
Harsh, automatons have feelings too, you know.

Nah, I just don’t see the point in getting irate with strangers on the internet because they support a different football team to me. Always prefer to engage and discuss things civilly rather than just calling them ****s. Feels at times like I’m in the minority though!

I don’t think the two have to be mutually exclusive. The fielding of youngsters and second string for the domestic cups is the usual MO for those in the CL. And of course they gear towards it on the basis that it’s the biggest prize in club football. I’m not sure the you want to win the CL/we want to win the PL argument stands up - we’ve won the league eighteen times. That’s a fact regardless of era. But winning the European Cup is a truly momentous occasion. I’d bet good money if you asked the players which one they wanted this year, every one of them would say the CL. Professional pride and ambition.

Why would I be, it’s not a prerequisite? When it was though, we did pretty well so at least we’ve got solid form for it.
How can you say there’s nothing like it? It’s barely been won by the best team in Their domestic league. It’s called the champions league and yet it’s full of shit teams. The old format I could imagine was a great feeling to win. Now...give me a league over a cup every time. I wonder what you lot will say if you don’t win the league again and maybe don’t have the luck you’ve had in Europe again this year. Will you still see Jurgen as a success? You mentioned AC Milan they’re no marks now as well so who gives a fuck how many times you won it in the past. It’s eating you up that you’ve not won the premier league and I hope come the end of this year it’s hurting you lot even more.

Hard to discuss things civilly with some folk who blatantly want to bait

It’s also a fact that you haven’t won your own domestic league for nearly thirty years, and that surely rankles with a club your size. A couple of CL wins in that time soften the blow, for sure, but I still think you’re being disingenuous.

Then you’d lose that bet, as I’ve seen a number of interviews with our players and manager where they say the Premier League is the priority.

I really can’t fathom how you devalue the CL so much but each to his own. And plenty of league champions have won it, and others haven't. What’s important is what you do when it matters. Doesn’t matter what the format is, league or knock out.
Win us a European Cup and you’re forever immortalised at our gaff. If he wins the league as well, even better. But if he didn’t, it would only be because of the fact that there was a once in a lifetime team in the same period. That shouldn’t be seen as failure or bottling. It’s not like he’s been nowhere near it and he’s looking okay this year. The more pertinent question is would Guardiola be deemed a failure if he doesn’t win the CL with that squad?
