They go on about "winning it 6 times", as though that's the only trophy that means anything. I was thinking about this last night and it's a trophy you can win without winning a single game (at least in 90 minutes).

In the group stage, of the 4 teams, Team A draws every game 0-0, gaining 6 points. Team B wins the other 4 games they play, drawing the two against A, and win the group with 14 points. Teams B & C therefore draw 2 against Team A and lose 2 to Team B, then each wins against the other, giving them both 5 points each. So Team A, without scoring a goal or winning a game, go through to the last 16.

In the knockout stage, they draw 0-0 at home and 1-1 away, winning the tie. They do the same in the QF and SF, meaning they've got to the final without winning a game and scoring just 3 goals. The final is 0-0 after extra time and they win on penalties. 13 games, 13 draws and 3 goals scored. That would get you relegated in the PL. Don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted to win it but winning the league is a far harder ask and much more of an accomplishment.

It’s technically possible to win the league by only scoring 2 goals.

All results are 0-0 apart from the champions drawing 1-1 against 2 different teams resulting in winning the league on goals scored.

Sadly it’s true for a good proportion of their fan base. I got in a discussion on Twitter fact checking an (on the face of it) intelligent fan on our ownership and FFP. After demolishing his arguments as false, all he could say was that it didn’t matter what I said (or pointing out that the information that he relied on was unfounded) it wouldn’t change his opinion of city and their ‘cheating and corrupt’ ownership. Fundamentalist cult is right.

Unlikely in my opinion. Most of the multi-winners in Europe got a good bunch of titles during the period when the competition was in its original formats to boost their tallies, and it's unlikely any team is going to be able (or be allowed) to dominate in such a way, now that so many teams have so much money. Winning the original format was an achievement, in my opinion, but it was similar to the league and FA Cup in terms of prestige in a club's season. The different European cups were of a very similar stature too, well the EC and the ECWC were at least. The overseas teams seemed to take it more seriously because their domestic competitions were quite commonly dominated by one or two teams for many years.

We've underachieved in the CL, that's for sure. Unlucky at times, self-destructive at others, but this competition is not the same as the one 20 years ago. When unfavoured teams began winning the old format (during England's ban) "they" decided it needed changing and the CL was born. The same will happen again now that all their attempts to prevent us challenging have failed.

That’s what you’d think but the numbers are just wrong. Saying we spent £154m last summer? And only recouped £16m? (Presuming that’s what they mean by 2021 unless they have hacked our database again and know what we’re about to spend!!). Our net spend was £40m or so not £140m.

Season before it was 128m / 61m and so on.

Just trying to make sense of the numbers

It's just a scouse random number generator they use to make them feel better about their failures. Don't waste time trying to make any sense of it, it's not worth the effort.
