I’m amazed how they now feel compelled to compare everything against the current (and recent history) City yardstick.
Their social media hordes are literally obsessed with how everything they do gives them some, however nebulous or illusory, advantage over City.
Yes, they had a good run last year, but they “only” won the two domestic pots on penalties and failed, yet again, at the final hurdle in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Their “Quadruple” fizzled out in misery, but their media constantly change the goalposts., using resulting in their illegal flare-drenched parades suddenly bring of greater importance than either title they lost!
Indeed, I don’t remember seeing a thing about the red flares that were thrown on the pitch at the King Power during the Community Shield. Oh well, it’s the “Kop,” right, and one song and a few flags is the height of British football support, right?!
Make no mistake, they’re a well-run club (from overseas investors, shock horror!) with a long history that has been reignited by a top, albeit obnoxious, passive-aggressive, coach, who plays attractive, aggressive football that creates excitement.
However, it is “amusing” that we are MORE attacking, as just as defensively sound, yet don’t get near the plaudits for the quality of the football.
In fact, City’s overwhelming, technically superior, possession is increasing fly being spoken of as a negative “for the game,” and City’s oh-so-recent continued success addressed as “boring,” or still (ironically, quite boringly) still derided as “oil money,” even though the CFG Sustainability Model is the envy of sports groups across the globe.
I find the Liverpool narrative about City to be both amusing and hypocritical, but no-one has ever said you needed to understand history or have a deep seated football knowledge to stand on the Kop and sing a song.
Liverpool have staked their claim to being “almost Champions” by “thismuch” multiple times in recent years, and have waxed lyrical about their first Premier League win in history, while gloating about winning the Champions League during a season when City’s name was on the trophy until a few referees decided it wasn’t to be.
In short, City are the current world benchmark for technically brilliant football, and playing second fiddle to that, even if they win games against us, us too much for them to bear.
This may be the Golden Age of being a City fan, since the late 60’s-early 70’s, and I’m enjoying it more than I ever imagined. This club/team has literally brought me to tears at times over the last decade. But, in all fairness, so has the Liverpool supporting media…just a different kind of tears! ;-)
We live, rent-free, in their heads, yet I know ZERO City fans who give a toss what the Scousers do. That speaks volumes to me.
