My husband is a scouser and a Liverpool supporter. He doesn't himself boo the anthem but he has a lot of friends who do because Liverpool people were treated like shite by the South for so many years. Thatcher, the government, etc. Hillsborough cover-up didn't help. He believes a Southern team may have gotten justice a lot sooner. It's not really aimed directly at the Monarchy, more the establishment, if that makes sense.

Lots of places were treated just as bad or worse under the thatcher government, especially the North East of England, such as Teesside, some parts of Country Durham etc. Never recovered to this day but they don't carry the same victim mentality everywhere they go.

As for Hillsborough being a cover up, that's not because it was Liverpool. We've seen authorities in any country and any city will cover their own arses first. Again, Liverpool acting like it's the first time a cover up as ever happened. Cover up it may have been, especially after, but it still doesn't mean thousands didn't go there without a ticket and trying to get in

Ah, the democracy argument again.

Protest all you want, but this is about respect.

I can protest all I want about "being forced to" pay tribute to the Hillsborough dead, but I will keep quiet when there is a tribute out of respect for those who were affected.

You can protest against the royal family all you want, but when the nation is celebrating a royal event, and, like it or not, the majority support a royal family, just shut the fuck up for a couple of minutes.
It's not about your right to freedom of speech, it's about being respectful.

Remember, respect is a two-way street. No-one has a monopoly on respect. Not even in fucking Liverpool.

Sorry yes it is. You have no more right to demand respect than the others have to demand disrespect.

It's not a tragedy. It's not a funeral,it's not a private event. The Royals aren't an impoverished or persecuted minority.

You can sing the anthem and others can boo.

If people wanted to sing the anthem today because they respect or have admiration for the monarchy - good for them, go for it!

If people wanted to boo the anthem today because they hold the monarchy in disdain and are a bit peeved off by what they perceive as a sham of an 'event' taking place today when the country is on its arse - good for them too!

Don't see what all the fuss is about, those booing have as much right to voice protest as those who wish to pay respect.

What is your view on booing a Hillsborough tribute then if someone holds Liverpool fans in disdain and is a bit peeved off by what they perceive as a sham of an "event" taking place today when the actual event was more than a generation ago?

Now, you see there is your mistake. You are applying your criteria of what you think deserves respect to your respectfulness.

One is either respectful of the feelings of others, or one isn't. If you aren't you can justify it to yourself any way you want.

And yet they're the ones wanting offensive chants in football made punishable. But it's only offensive chants against them that they're actually talking about. Anything offensive or disrespectful from their own kind is ok because they're ' victims ' who are only fighting back in a hateful country that is apparently out to get them.

Don't really care about the booing of the National Anthem it's their right to and I don't blame anyone that displays open contempt for the whole nonce protecting, inbred medieval cosplay that is Monarchy.

Having said that though, it's a bit fucking rich for this lot to be booing. They constantly refer to themselves as 'European Royalty' without a shred of irony. Also I seem to recall they had a sizeable part of their fanbase that were well up for the Super League shambles because despite all their huff and puff for the last decade they haven't had the period of domination they felt they're entitled to.

They're constantly scratching their heads wondering why neutral fans enjoy watching them fall on their face? It's because they flounce around like some sort of mad, entitled Monarch demanding acknowledgement of their 'European Royalty' and that 'it means more'. How dare the rest of the football peasants have the audacity to follow other teams, they could only 'imagine being us'.

Always the victims...it's that wierd mentally of theirs

Today our road is having a street party. I'm not a monarchist, they are irrelevant to me and as someone has already said my life would not change if we didn't have a monarch. I will be at the party and will be positive about it, because I know that a lot of people do care and kids will have a good time. It's a case of respecting your neighbours.
