Dippers will get Giddy then he's named Chelsea Boss on Monday....

Certainly "above our level" at this time, but given that none of the top four are searching for a manger right now, there is no excuse to not be going all in right now to try and get him here.

But as we've agreed earlier in this thread, it's likely that catching top 4 is not really a serious goal by the hierarchy. I think it's producing sellable stars, playing sort of ok football, and most of all, nice commerical deals and photo ops.

Although none of the top 4 are looking, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that all four could be looking come next summer, depending on results. Then there's Bayern and Real Madrid who could be looking too. It's probably fair to say at least two top jobs will crop up next year which must be in the back of the mind of any manager.

wonder if Jimmy is still thinking his move to Klanfield was a great career decision, at least his £6m signing on fee is a comfort , or maybe he signed for loserpool because they are a massive club (in asia) , must congratulate Bodgers , turning them into the new Newcastle , big crowds but not a f*cking chance of any silverware

It is a great career decision to be fair.

Being a dipper player guarantees him a job as a pundit when he retires.

Exactly, so do all we can while no one else is in the market now. We paid 65M for Markovic, Lallana and Lovren when we already had bodies at an equal level in those positions, so the issue is not money, right? Why is firing Rodgers and paying silly money for Klopp expensive, but paying Milner 150K a week isn't? At least that's my perspective as a fan, I don't know how an accountant or "business analyst" would view the situation.

I'm sure it's a goal for them but, as you realise yourself, they have no intention of investing the funds that would make that more far realistic. Our owner and Abramovich have each invested £1bn to get us and Chelsea where we are. The rags also have enough fire-power to buy their way into the top 4 consistently (and it might not even be enough to be 4th if we lose that extra CL place, as could well happen). Arsenal have their problems but have a very good squad.

The last and new Sky deals were probably game-changers as owners will now just sit back and count the money for just being in the PL and not bother about trying to challenge the status quo. What's the point of pumping in £3/4/500m when there is no guarantee of success and the rewards are marginal in comparison?

Which is OK for the next few years and I agree Liverpool as a club still have global appeal but little by little that will diminish the more they are not competing at the highest level

I imagine FSG couldn't give less of a shit, they'll still be making cash and moving on to the next team.

It's already evidenced in the tour over the summer, they weren't attracting the sorts of crowds the used to... or that we did for that matter.
The sponsorships and kit deals will start to become less and less if they stay out of the top 4.

Owners have determined realistic future is 4/5th to 10th, CL & Europa sometimes, decent cup showings and the odd win and getting hammered by us twice a year min. Wankers. Manager needed that knows how to manage the reality of 2015.

If our Brendan is under threat, then the next appointment will say a lot about FSG's approach and committment to Liverpool Football Club.

One of Europe's finest young manager's just sitting there waiting to be plucked.

I think they are more likely to go for Gary Monk sadly for them. That isn't a slight on Gary, just the far cheaper option and a true sign of FSGs "committment"

A true analogy of, "what was the losing bid?"
