Looking back, how do you feel about Hughes now?

I never changed my opinion on numpty, nor ever saw any reason to, a bad manager in a job he could never do.
Nor do I think he bought that well, the signings are what a kid on playstation would do with loads of money, and did not address team needs, the lose of some players criminal, and the use of the press to backstab unforgivable.

Which we all know is incredibly split, and has been since day one.

So im with GStar, what is the point?

Because now we can give a better analysis of Hughes' tenure. What's the point in discussing anything in the past? In fact what's the point in duscussing anything on here? Might as well just not discuss anything!

In case you haven't noticed, we generally don't!

Hughes threads have always turned into slanging... it doesn't need much discussion that in his short tenure Mancini has got us looking a hell of a lot better than Hughes ever did.

So what do we take from that Mancini>>>Hughes? Great, i think everyone will be thinking that so far, without anyone holding thier hand and telling them such. Its more likely this thread allows people to needlessly have a go at someone who is no longer involved with our club or to say "i always wanted him out... im so great... now tickle my balls!"

And tbh, i'm not too into ball tickling.

My own opinion is a fantastic start. Albeit against lesser teams that maybe if Hughes had still been here we would've beat.
Remember Pearce started very well. I doubt Mancini will be the same and can see him improving things. I'm all for him now he's our manager I just thought Hughes was capable of turning things. That though we'll never know because it's over for his era.
Anyone in the I told you so camp is a little too smug. As I say we will never know. And Hughes' signings have been good so he left us with a good squad of players.

So thats my view. We'll never know who was right over Hughes. all we know is now we have Mancini. And hopefully the division can finally go away and we can start being as one behind the team.

i feel exactly the same. i dont hate hughes but i did think it was right for him to go. i kind of feel sorry for him but then again i wouldnt mind being paid a couple of million to get the sack.

PMSL. Liked this, very amusing.

I also liked your purple cardy from the BM party - can I have it and use it as my Cat's bed?? :)

I overrated him massively at first. He did a lot of good for the club, but ultimately he couldn't get the best out of the talent he brought in.

His biggest contribution was assembling a squad of quality players, which we now have. Signing, Kompany, Dejong and Bellamy was inspired. Jo and TBH were big mistakes. Of course we all know how good Given, Barry, Tevez, Ade etc are (I don't count Robinho as a MH's signing)

His biggest faults were his tactics, and his inability to change a game. He also puts too much faith in the taffia. He'd be better off having a wise old head as his assistant along the lines of Kidd or Venables.

I feel bad for the guy, because we could have done a lot worse for a manager, the club was a bit of a joke when Sven left and we shouldn't forget that. Saying that I'm chuffed to bits with sexy Mancio. Time will tell. Everybody loved Sven, but what a joker he turned out to be. I genuinely think that Mancini is the real deal.

Hughes was a very good appointment at the time, we didnt have a lot of money, the team needed some stabilty and discipline and he was a prem proven operater who could get the best out of hard working pro's. His brief was to keep us in the prem and he would have done that.

The day we got took over was the day that Hughes was no longer the right man for the job and the mistake our owners made was not getting rid of him then and get their own man in.

Nothing against him, met him personally in SA, a nice bloke who i have no doubt wanted the best for us, but he is not a top class manager and he never will be imo.

Hughes can take a lot of credit for where we are, he just wasnt good enough to take us the extra mile.

Its Hughes's team thats in fourth place right now, just playing better under better management.
Nailed on ,but for the fact there was 5 players yesterday playing ,that Hughes would not play
