Now you're being unfair to Hughes. They weren't his players and they needed time to gel and he bought great players and he needed more time and and andsamharris said:Hughes last 10 games = 11 points

I said from day one he was always out of his depth, especially when they money arrived, an inept manager with players like robinho in your side is like cat and mouse, everyone says we haven't played anyone BIG yet, remember Hull, Burnley and Fulham?, 3 games we should have won and if we did we would be top of the premiership on 47 points, 3 draws against average sides at home with the team we have, simply not good enough,
Hughes tactics and bizarre setups were clear to see, and he never ever had a Plan B if needed, he couldn't change a game tactically, 34,000 people could highlight a problem on the pitch, only hughes and his backroom staff never saw it,
It's no co-incidence since his departure the level of football has rised, the mentality of the team has increased, the back 4 look like a completely different back 4
thats cos they are.... Ha Ha , <couldnt resist>.

Its Hughes's team thats in fourth place right now, just playing better under better management.
THIS^^^^^^^
Hughes built an incredible team for a top manager to work with, perhaps Hughes could have got there in time, but this season was too good an opportunity to throw away.
I don't think Hughes would have WON all 4 of the last games, definitely don't think he would have won all 4 comfortably though. Especially with all the injuries, and he also would have mentioned all the injuries before games to provide an early excuse should things go wrong, thus giving the team an excuse to play at their best i think.
Hughes has been very dignified in this (more than the board deserve) so I don't really have a bad word to say about him. His good points were beating the big teams and being very good in the transfer market, and we are reaping the benefits of this now with a more tactically minded manager who can also beat the lower teams.
All just part of the journey!

there is so much good comment on this thread. My tuppence worth is:
1) We would not have won the last four games with Hughes in charge,
2) We would have conceded more than one goal per game with Hughes team,
3) I have my optimism back,
4) If we had started the season with Mancini, we would now be first or second in the league,
5) Mancini is the REAL Special One, I feel it in my bones.
