Looking back, how do you feel about Hughes now?

In case you haven't noticed, we generally don't!

Course we do

So what do we take from that Mancini>>>Hughes? Great, i think everyone will be thinking that so far, without anyone holding thier hand and telling them such.

No. We're now beginning to see that Hughes' excuses (and there were an awful lot of them) are actually turning out to be a load of shite. The expectation level he conned evryone into believeing just a few weeks ago is also turning out to be a laod of shite, and so on and so on

At the same time, it could all go tits up for Mancini from here on in and some of the things Hughes said and did might prove to be correct. All worth discussing as it was a tough and disputed decision to sack hughes by people still controlling the direction of the club and evry day we learn a bit more as to whether it was the right or wrong one.

hughes was and always will be a good quality, mid range manager. But he had no real vision and ideas. Most of the games under him this and last season, seemed to be about all guns blazing for 20 minutes and then what the fek does everyone do now. Vision is about taking risks and hughes did not take risks. He got overwhelmed with the big signings, could not see past the size of the cheque book behind him and lacked tactical bollocks.
Hughes should take the Burnley job or wait for other lower to mid-range opportunities. His exit was handled disgracefully, but in fairness, me must have realised he was dealing with one of the richest corporations on the planet and as they said, 3 wins in 14 is just not good enough, irrespective of agreed targets. Apart from Bellamy and one or two others, I don't think the boys liked playing for him. This discussion is better done at the end of February to see if Mancini is not all flair and sound bites, but imo, City is now too big for hughes and he was bound to go. Remember, the current owners inherited him and gave him 18 months - and more money than GOD!

My own opinion is a fantastic start. Albeit against lesser teams that maybe if Hughes had still been here we would've beat.

All the evidence suggests we wouldn't.

people say lets thank him for what he did
he did wjhat he could etc etc

but i still personally beleive we went backwards with hugues, and he did nothing but hold us back

his player aquisitions just softened the blow so to speak, and hid just how far back he took us

tactically naive, and in todays modern game - thats a doozie

I backed Hughes to get us where we need to be. I stand by that. He was an unlucky manager. The biggest problem was that he divided the fans and that was reflected in the players. Some fans never gave him a chance and were desperate for him to go from the day he got the job. Towards the end the whole team looked so nervous probably because they felt the pressure that a bad performance would lose the manager his job. I would have liked to have seen him really given time in the job but I can see why he was sacked given the way we were slipping behind a bit.

Bobby Manc has come in and the atmosphere around the club and fans has improved obviously led by some good team performances. But he's played 4 teams without a decent centre-forward between them. Let's see how he does in the tougher matches before hailing him the messiah.

We have a new man in charge, let's ALL get behind this one. Forget about Hughes now, he's gone.

What evidence would that be. You can't claim past draws would have been the same in these games. It's football. Anything can happen.

Honestly? No different than I did a few weeks back.

Mancini has had probably the easiest run of games of any new manager ever, and all of a sudden, he is the spunk covered King of Manchester - a title that he inherited from Hughes after the Arsenal/Chelsea games.

What Hughes needed, was the one thing that we couldn't give him - time. Not time to build a team, not time to let it gel, but time to grow as a manager and learn the completely new trade of a top four manager. Hughes has always done well with the underdog teams, and our defensive record with him in charge shows that when you're favourites, football is a different game. I don't think he ever really adapted to this, but always think that he would have done if given a few years, he would have gotten it right.

We couldn't afford to give him this time, and we parted ways with him, entirely fairly in my opinon.

All in all, he'll be a good manager in the future, and he'd do well at a Villa/Spuds, but we are moving and learning quicker than he was and a change was needed.

Lets wait and see! Personally I think hughes was building a solid foundation for the future that would have seen us winning trophies and competing at the highest level at home and in Europe on a regular basis. But we must wait and see, after all, we have not played any big teams yet and the likes og Man u in the semis will tell where we are at. my question is this, is Manchini the next chosen one and are City going to end up like Chelski? Sure they finish in the top 4 every year, but still, they don't win much when you concider the amount of money they have spent and the time the team has been together. I guess only time will tell but personally, Im not yet convinced. Lets wait a while, at least until the honeymoon period is over.

I not saying manchini is the wrong choice, Im just saying, long term....was it really the right decision?

Hughes can take a lot of credit for where we are, he just wasnt good enough to take us the extra mile.

Its Hughes's team thats in fourth place right now, just playing better under better management.

exactly that, and we did treat him terribly at the end
First,he didn't build a team, these were players everyone knew about. His scouting must have consisted of watching MOTD.As for being treated terribly,I,personally, feel more sorry for the people he had sacked so he could give their jobs to his family and cronies.I wish everyone could move on from him ,because given the resources available to him,I think he was outperformed by Megson.
