Looking down on 'glory hunters' is arrogance

Some people see things in black and white and there are no shades of grey. Some of the same people who instantly accused Courtney Meppen Walter of guilt for instance (a case which is still classified as under suspicion the initial thread was deleted after derailing into a massive argument) are the same who are quick to throw out tags such as gloryhunting. Some people just see things in black and white no matter the subject and there's little point arguing with them. Especially on a mostly faceless messageboard.

im sorry mate, but you were a blackburn fan not so long ago, who decided to ditch them when they got relegated and the owners turned shit.

no offence mate but i would define you as a glory hunter. Sorry if I have offended you

Haha, hateful's a touch far.

You want honesty?

There's an element of resentment, besides the kids growing up knowing nothing but a successful City, what right does an adult have to suddenly decide to start attending games which bear the attendance of MCFC now that we're 'glamorous' and an attractive proposition to these people?

Those same people couldn't give a flying fuck about us a matter of years ago.

Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of sitting up in the 3rd tier will tell you what it's like, it's a fucking circus. Isolated spots resembling much ridiculed parts of Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge.

Take for example the following; I had a workmate in 2008 who approached me when he found out I was a blue, he tried a little small talk, his enthusiasm for City, season ticket holder, future looks good etc. I found out later from another workmate that a month earlier he had no previous allegiances (whatsoever) to City, but decided in haste to buy a season ticket following the takeover and the deadline day capture of Robinho. A 19 year old man - not a gullible, impressionable child, but a grown man.

These people exist, we all like to convince ourselves they don't but they do, and maybe some are happy to welcome them with open arms, but I'm not.

Castigate me for my honesty by all means.

I won't castigate you mate, this is obviously a bit of a sore point for you, but I've got to say "So what? So f*cking what?"

Why do you let these things fill you with such anger? F*ck it man, enjoy the match, enjoy the success, ignore the groups of tarts in the 3rd tier if you don't like them or how they watch the match. There are plenty of things in life that happen that are completely out of your control, you've just got to deal with it as best you can, but if you let these things get to you you'll f*cking explode man.

Nah I know mate, in the grand scheme of things, relatively speaking it's not a big deal, but it's a topic I care about. Maybe I should care less, but when the prices of individual tickets are shooting up year on year, it's these characters who'll be filling those non-seasoncard seats, while genuine blues who can't afford to attend regularly are forced to attended even less frequently due to cost - a good mate of mine is in this position. When that becomes the norm our atmosphere will begin to go the way of the swamp, the Emirates, Stamford Bridge et al.

Personally, I'm alright at present, I'm flanked by regulars on all sides so I'm immune to the daytripper/plastic contingent at the moment. I just hope it stays that way.

Also, as a side issue, but still relevant to the topic. A lot of people highlight the loyalty point system as an insurance policy, but if you look at the amount of balloons who got hold of tickets for major away games last year, you have to wonder how they're getting hold of tickets ahead of blues.

City recognise there's that market now, so the allocations handed to corporate hospitality are going up year on year, and that includes away fixtures - hence tickets selling out at surprisingly high points.

That reason alone is enough to be resentful of these overnight 'blues'.

you'd better get ready to pay for your season ticket as they pay it at Old Trafford or the Emirates

It's to be expected, some delude themselves it won't happen, but we're seeing increases across the board at present every season. I just hope sense prevails and the rises are kept reasonable, our regulars having nothing in common with regulars at the Emirates or Stamford Bridge.

Would have no bearing on you though, so I'm sure you couldn't give a toss.

I love it when this topic comes around, usually everyone is walking on eggshells and doing their best to demonstrate a warm and cozy glow at the Manchester City Inn, and then JMA arrives and just completely cleans up. Hilarious.
Actually, big piles of bull-shit are pretty much the opposite of cleaning up, in my books it is anyway.
*singingtheblues* said:
Besides, I think you speak for the majority of match-going blues on this topic for what it's worth JMA.
Only the ones with a lonely brain cell, pal, not the rest of us.

A - In my opinion, your previous post was bullshit. 'In my books' at least, all subjective this you see.

B - You are clearly unfamiliar with JMA's extensive posts on this topic likewise his character, so your assumptions and feeble attempts at character assassination are unwarranted and without merit.

C - Love the old presumption of moral high-ground, accompanied by a misplaced sense of superiority. Build a strawman and knock him down.

If all match-going blues, like myself, who aren't too fond of gloryhunters are lacking in intelligence - then where does that leave you?

You speak from a position of enlightenment and elevated intellect do you?

Ha. Take you presumptions and pretence elsewhere you tit.

Two cracking posts, ecstasy. Nuked 'em!

Quite frankly, throwing around accusations of bigotry and using the tired, and entirely ridiculed, band analogy is the default position of someone who hasn't a fucking clue.

If you have an opinion, share it, unless you're incapable of articulating your own thoughts and have to rely on others to do your talking for you?

I think I hear the sound of bars rattling on someone's cage.

How about placing a ban on all new supporters for the next 10 years, then we'll have no glory hunters (or "drooling cretins" as you called them earlier). Oh wait, we'd better make it retrospective to the takeover to make really sure. Happy now?

And before some knobhead confuses length of time on BM with time as a City supporter (as if they hold the moral high ground)...engage...brain...first.

We realise it's an unfortunate part of becoming a successful club, doesn't mean we have to be happy about it, let alone embrace the drooling cretins that suddenly decide they're blues following that goal.

Embarrassing.

Lately on the forum I've noticed an increase in comments about new fans being 'glory hunters', along with a derisive attitude towards foreign fans - particularly Bosnians.

I understand why there is a sense of pride and community among Mancunian city fans given recent history, especially as I got my first season ticket in 1995. But it doesn't excuse this 'us and them' attitude: it's just pompous and arrogant.

Firstly, it's no sacrifice for a manc to support their local team: the team is full of world class players. Why should some kid in China support the local club when the standard of football is crap and they can watch the best teams in the world with less effort on TV?

Secondly, given FFP the future competitiveness of the club from now on depends on expanding the global fanbase.

Thirdly, there isn't only one 'right' reason to support a club. We all have our own stories: I support City because my Dad started taking me when I was 6. My brother's mate started going when he moved to Manchester to study. We'll have fans in China because of Sun Jihai. An on and on.

So in short, I suggest certain people wind their necks in.

Dobsy.

I was born on in Dec 69, my Mum went to the 1969 FA cup final played in April, so I was about the size of a fingernail, went to my first league game at 4/5 and had my first season ticket at the age of 6, I've got a season card now and so does my misses and have done for a good few years. I don't look down at any "new fans" how can I, I wasn't at York away, there I've said it! I was at Main road when Big Sam brought Notts County in the cup and they got spanked 7-1(cos there were so few people there me and my mate went all around the ground several times and didn't get stopped once), Does that count for anything?
