Plus he would soon get restless playing 30 -40 games for us if he was missing the big games and finals.Can't see us paying £100 mill to back up Rodri either. 40+ games at City, or 40+ games at Brighton? I know which I'd choose. From his own mouth, Rodri needs a rest & this provides opportunities to others if they're good enough to grab them.
The more I think about this transfer, the more on board with it I am. The fee is pretty high, but I’m not paying it so that doesn’t really bother me. Think he’ll thrive at City, and gives us a bit more creativity in midfield. Get a winger in now and it will have been a very good window.

So why's he desperate to go to Chelsea who've just bought Enzo Fernandez?You still gotta understand the player in question will want to be seen as main man not somebody else backup and hated being seen as backup.
So that's why many of those player opt to choose a lesser quality midfield competition in order more guarantee starter and not being part of rotation.
What you've said makes no sense. Caicedo's young & has a lot to learn about football at the very highest level. If he wanted to be a guaranteed starter every game, he could easily do so by dropping down to the Championship & replacing Lavia at Southampton.
Caicedo wants to test himself at the highest level, & as Rodri said yesterday, he needs to be rested otherwise he'll be burned out. The same goes for all modern players at the highest level, including Caicedo.
Having read Rodri's comments, I think we need to prioritise an understudy for him. Our wide options can be covered by a number of players. I don't think we can rely on Phillips, so getting someone in who can cover for Rodri is vital, particularly if Kovacic does turn out to be injured.
The game at the weekend it was noticeable at 75th min he looked tired yep still need to get up to speed and it was only our 3rd game! Last season he was a 10/10 player there bound to be a bit of a drop of! Pep needs another reliable player who can play Rodri role..
So we bid £70m for a replacement whilst he is still on the way to hospital?

In my defence I thought the injury was reported as being on Tuesday morning/afternoon during training then the Paqueta news came Tuesday evening.
