Lucas Paqueta investigated by FA for alleged betting breaches

Did we look at someone else before Paqueta and it didn't materialise? Just seems a left field one, not like us to leave a big move this late on. Increases the chances of getting bent over etc.

Are we still expecting Bernardo to stay? Or is this someway related?
I suspect he's been on the radar for a while but we're now pushing the button now we know exactly who's staying and who's gone.

He provides a ton of versatility and has the workrate Pep loves. He can play in Gundo's role, as a 10 or even wide right at a pinch (although admittedly not in the same way as Mahrez).

He ticks a lot of boxes for a Pep player.

We were looking for a DM or proper “all-rounder” CM’s in rice and Bellingham no? So those two players fit the bill and continue the trend of the players we’re looking for. Plus Rodri is the only DM we have with Phillips seemingly not trusted.
Keyword here is 'were'.
Whatever our strategy is/has been this summer is another story, but we're not bringing in Paqueta to cover Rodri.. We're obviously looking to add creativity to that midfield, or attack, with Paqueta and don't think Luis or Redondo, or such a profile, does that.

The market is fucked anyway so i think this is an opportunity for a play only 25 that Pep absolutely adores!

Surely this means Mcatee is going back out on loan? He's not going to touch the field with the competition as it is.
Expect so unless they play him off the RW. Sheffield should be back on the blower asap.

Berge cash on Doyle, McAtee on loan.

Silva / Rodri / KDB
Paqueta / Kova / Foden

is some nice balance in the middle 6 for us though. I like it.

I like him. He's a good player. A bit of Brazilian flair will be fun, I think he's got the kind of high risk high reward playmaking that only KDB gives us at the moment, with Bernardo, Kovacic, Phil, Grealish all prioritising ball retention over chance creation - which is great but you need someone with a bit more ambition sometimes which is why this is KDB's team.

However, we could have bought him for £75m in June. To pay £115m after the season has started would be a serious failure of management.

And people can say "not my money" etc and that's true, but it's childishly ignorant to pretend overpaying by something like £40m isn't going to have repercussions somewhere.

I also don't think he can do anything we've not already got. He's certainly not walking into the starting XI, so why commit so much of our great but not limitless resources on this player.

I don't see it. Trust in Pep etc. but it all feels very last minute, very reactionary to me.
This transfer window hasn't been operated as good as it should have.
