Lucas Paqueta investigated by FA for alleged betting breaches

Had a fair old talk with my son. My son — far better than me, and better I suspect than the majority of people on this forum — has seen Paquetá over and over, game after game, since he is a lifelong Olympique Lyonnais supporter (don't ask, it's a lengthy story). I realise that I may have underestimated this guy. At l'OL he more or less carried the team (I have the distinct impression from Hammers fans that I've read on here and on KUMB that he not infrequently has the same importance at WHU). He is very skilful, he defends, he works his socks off for the team, everything that Pep likes. I had him down as a good player, but a bit of a prima donna in the Brazilian style. I'm happy to trust my son's judgement. He knows his football (pretty morose about l'OL these days).
£80-85 million no longer seems that inflated to me. He won't be KDB, he won't be Gundo. He'll be a different kind of midfielder.
Get it done, Txiki.
The acquisition of Kova, Gvardiol and this guy would have to be considered a very good window. The more so in that it looks more and more as though Bernie and Kyle are staying. It's scary, but the team could actually be better than last year's, although the loss of Kev is a definite blow.

RIGHT OLD MAN SIT DOWN!

get's lecture on Paqueta

:)

Paqueta wasn't even star at Midtable team
Correct, and flopped at Milan, was very good at Lyon. All those things can be true, including him not justifying the price tag, but he is a Pep player, very hard to argue against the profile.

If you’re being honest here Moyes wouldn’t know what to do with so much technical ability, he limited him by sticking him in the 10 like a Lanzini and thought it would work. Also Paqueta took time in adjusting to the league, and you can ask about any West Ham fan now, he’s been their best player for the past 3 months. So someone who’s familiar with the league, already a good profile, even if there are huge risks (and I get the point about need/want because Foden can do it), he will be a success here. Depth in numbers for us isn’t just like depth in numbers for another club, we used to stand out because we could bring world class players off the bench too, that’s all there is.

I do agree whether there are better options on market, whether he’s worth that, if he’s needed at all, but I’ve come around to accept the idea, even if he’s a very expensive bench option for this season, he is staying for very long here and will be a success. Can’t be a Brazilian player under Pep and flop :-)
