I've seen Shaw put killer crosses in, saw him do a couple in one game. He might not have the assists to back it up yet but they'll come. You can see he's got it, or at least the potential to very much have it at some point

He definitely is capable of a great ball.I wonder if the stats reveal he assists the assist;-)

Agree ... i also think sometimes you need to take a risk on a young player. i'd happily lose one of clichy/kola in exchange for giving Luke Shaw the shot at making our LB spot his own.

As much as I'd like Shaw If we spend £40 on a CB and support for Toure and Fernandinho, can we spend £30 mil on a left back. That would be 70mil spent and I still think we need to replace Richards, possibly upgrade Dzeko and plus I don't think we can ask for another 60 game season straight after a world cup with only Silva and Nasri for our creative input.
Unless of course we Sign Messi as that would pay for itself,

No I don't think we can. It's not a priority for me. But I'm not having people writing it off as a complete waste of money when there's a good chance he'll prove to be very good value for money for whoever buys him. I think he will prove to be good value for money, but he's probably not for us right now

£30M on this boy would represent one hell of a risk, especially given that our owners do take FFP seriously

No more so than 27/28 million on Jovetic. And he was older. I think the Shaw deal would be well worth it.

Also ... worth baring in mind that Kolarov is on more money than the rags are apparently offering Shaw.

I think we should look at how much our second choice would cost in comparison and compare the upsides.

We'll spend £15m at least on any left back decent enough to replace Kolarov or Clichy.

It's also worth noting that with Lescott, Richards, Wright, and Boyata leaving it will only give us Hart, Clichy and Milner in the homegrown spots from the first team squad which is missing 5.

If we have high hopes for Angelino then we wont go for Shaw in my opinion.

30m is a ridiculous fee if you ask me, especially when Moreno is arguably gettable for half of that and will most likely be easier to put on cheaper wages.

There is talk of Moreno going to the World Cup for Spain as understudy to Alba as well.

We have FFP to think about and in my opinion we have to be aware of spending 30m+ on any player now.

£30m on a 6 year, £80k deal is only £8m a year.

To compare, Kolarov costs us £8m a year.

It would be like for like in terms of cost.

Not sure about that maths, looks like £9m a year to me? Also, I'm not sure anyone would describe the Kolarov deal as the sort of value we are aspiring to achieve!

Personally I reckon we would be his third choice

If Chelsea want him he's theirs
I reckon he'd take the rags next for game time
Then us

I don't see Chelsea going for him.

Chelsea seem to be proper keen on biding by FFPR so they are not going to go off spending 30m on a left back when they want to sign Costa for around the same price if not more, plus I think all of Chelsea's forwards will be out the door come the Summer and Mourinho will want to bring two strikers in.

Azpilicueta has been great for them this season so why change something when it doesn't need fixing?

Shaw is nailed on to go United in my opinion.

I would have no problem with Shaw replacing Clichy and rotating with Kolorov for the next year or 2 until he is our number one left back. Remember he is only 18, he'll have to be at least 20/21 before he's good enough to be our regular left back.

My main problem is with the fee. I don't think he's worth £30 million - closer to £15 million IMO.

Also, if we pay £30 million on a left back, can we really rotate him?

At the moment, I think Kolorov is the best attacking full back in the league, so I wouldn't like to see him permanently second choice to a currently worse player.

Say we are in the middle of a champions league match and whoever we keep between clichy or Aleks goes off injured would you be happy trusting an 18yr old to fill in? I wouldn't,he is too young to rotate with whoever we keep imo, even better spend the money on backup for zab and vinnie instead

If we sold clichy to get shaw it wouldn't help us with the homegrown rule one bit, it'd just be one in and one out.

Technically we would be worse off on the homegrown front, because Shaw can't be registered on the 25-man list until he is 21, so he'd just count as an U21 for a few more years (which is just as good - some people don't seem to understand you don't have to name ANY homegrown players, it'd just limit your submitted squad to 17 + unlimited U21s).

We shouldn't be signing English players to fill quotas, we should do it if/when they're good enough like I think Shaw is, so that we ensure the club is identified with the best British players as well as the best Spanish, Italian, etc. Shaw's a no brainer for me although I fear he is destined for the rags the way our ITK's are talking !

I was speaking to a well connected rag last night who said Shaw was imminent to go to them.

I think this will happen too.

Shaw would walk into their team with Evra leaving, that wouldn't happen at us or Chelsea.
