If that is true 27m and 85k a week for Shaw its a total rip off and Southampton will be laughing there bollocks of!

15m is top whack for this lad just because he English

Disagree. In the long term, paying 27 million for an already very good prem proven 18 year old player is incredible value

30 mill for ferdinand, 27 or whatever for rooney. They got their money back in spades.
For a core player, but not for a fullback. Strikers, central midfielders and centerbacks are like gold dust, you can build your team around them, but fullbacks aren't worth that.

They are if you get a very good one who you'll get 15+ years out of

i agree. especially considering he's english... saying we value stikers, cms, and cbs, more than our wingbacks only proves how important of a buy he would be. Think about it. There's somewhere near 0 chance we find any english player truly worthy of a starting spot in one of our more important positions. if buying shaw means 10 plus years of an english player starting deservedly, that's easily worth 30 mil in my books

Can't say I agree, but time will tell I guess. Not seen anything to suggest Shaw is a top class player yet, so banking on him to be world class for the next decade seems a real stretch when already far more proven players in that position rarely cost half that. I've seen more than enough "next big things" fizzle out to think that kind of gamble is worth it, essentially just because he's english. If he was any other nationality and had played a season of decent, but unexceptional top flight football in any other league, I doubt anyone would be willing to pay even £10m for him, but because he's english and it's the premier league, he's apparently Roberto Carlos reincarnated? Not for me, not how I'd spend £30m on our team and definitely not how I'd spend it on the rags team

If he wasn't English half of us would laugh at his name being brought up. Typical overrated English youngster.

Yeah by a country mile for me, also Ricardo Rodriguez for Wolfsburg <a class="postlink" href="http://www.whoscored.com/Players/61610/Show/Ricardo-Rodriguez" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.whoscored.com/Players/61610/ ... -Rodriguez</a> 5 goals and 7 assists in 29 games from left back, getting an average rating of 7.98 according to that website.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.whoscored.com/Players/118244/Show/Luke-Shaw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.whoscored.com/Players/118244/Show/Luke-Shaw</a>
That is shaws stats, just 1 assist in 30 games isn't great for an attacking full back

Maybe Clichy and Demichelis had a few too many at the Christmas party... Awwwwkward!

Ricardo Rodriquez is a good choice.

I rate Shaw but I've noticed in recent weeks that his performances have dropped and his positional play has been at fault for goals.

if I was Txiki I'd give Shaw wide birth and let him have another season at 'The Saints' and keep a close eye. If he plays at the level that gained all the hype then fair dues, pay them £30-35m and get the player if possible. But for now, I do absolutely believe he is way overpriced and overhyped.

The reality is the rags will buy him and pay way over the odds after he plays in the World Cup. Let the rags buy him for nearly 30m - if he becomes their left back for the next 10 years he will be a bargain but there is no guarantee and we don't need to take chances like this. Moyes is busy spending a fortune on Mata, Fellani, Kroos and Shaw - what's that 120/130m and he won't have addressed any of his fundamental problems.

Moyes actually has made good signing but he's failed to get the most out of them, he's got a huge job to do rebuilding. the players have done an 'AVB' on him.

For me, Moreno makes a lot of sense, failing that Coentrao. Shaw is simply too expensive a gamble. I have seen so many players going to be the next this, that they other and it rarely works out. Even buying Baines for a few seasons whilst we buy a yoiung top LB at 16-17 and coach him to take over.

This isn't a money issue for me! It's about Shaw and for me it's a 'No'

I just don't see it. I went to the game on Saturday looking to be won over and frankly he was completely invisible.

Quite frankly leave him to some other team to pay top dollar and spends years regretting.

I thought he looked very good, composed under pressure and great ability on the ball. For 18,he also looks strong with a good physique.

IMO,a future star.

He looked good for an 18 year old, no way would he be getting into our first team right now and as such, I don't think spending £30m on him is justifiable.

I think he's plenty good enough for our first team, certainly no less of a contributor than our current two.

The home grown factor is huge, however,i dont see it happening as i really don't think we'd fancy the bidding war or matching the terms.

A talent missed but i'd like to think better value can be found.

Not seen much of Moreno or Rodriguez but the dogs certainly are barking about them.

Shaw would be overpriced at a straight 27/30m but a basic fee 10m less plus add-ons makes him of interest.
He has played a lot of games this season for a lad of his age in the Prem so not too bothered about a slight dip in his form at moment.
As mentioned him being English is a plus.

Think he'll be going to that lot over there in the end though.

The only LB's in the world that are worth circa 30 million are Alaba and Alba.

20 million should be the absolute MAXIMUM for this kid.

I agree. Although I think Shaw will prove to be excellent value for whoever buys him considering left back isn't a priority I'm not sure he'd be the best move for us right now.

£30 million for a left back not as good as Kolorov?

I'll pass.
Shaw is 18, Kolarov 29. I can guarantee that Shaw will become a world class LB. If we don't buy him this summer, we will never buy him.
