£30 million for a left back not as good as Kolorov?

I'll pass.
Shaw is 18, Kolarov 29. I can guarantee that Shaw will become a world class LB. If we don't buy him this summer, we will never buy him.
No, you really can't. Look no further than our very own Micah, who was far more impressive at 18 than Shaw is, yet is on the verge of moving to West Ham for less than £10m. How often do the english "next big thing" actually become world beaters, compared to how often they get discovered to be overhyped and average?

I'm not saying Shaw won't be world class, but the suggestion that he is definitely going to be a world beater is completely absurd

Kolarov won't be first choice next season and neither will Clichy in my opinion, one will be sold.

Clichy's strengths are his defensive work but even that has diminished this season, Kolarov on the other hand is great going forward but lack pace and top class defensive ability.

I do think we will look to get a new first choice left back next season and who it will be I don't know, but I do think Shaw is far too overpriced.

You will get more than ten years out of him though if he stays loyal and on top form.

I think it will be between him and Moreno if you ask me.

That's bollocks, although he doesnt quite have the 'killer' ball that kolarov has,he gets forward brilliantly and is capable of an excellent cross.Shaw can defend as well.....

another over-rated over-hyped English tallent there are better left backs of the same age or younger all over Europe yes,he's quality but is he worth the price quoted? is he hell!! just a decent player with the added "English premium"

Either one of Shaw, Moreno or Rodriquez would be a great signing for us, but as Shaw's reported price is 15-20m more than the other two, I'd be happy if we bought Moreno or Rodriguez and saved up for Reus.

Not sure but i believe its very good, against teams that allow him the opportunity.

0 goals 1 assist in the Premier League.

My last post was in relation to our boy and,as ever, stats only paint a fraction of a picture.

stats "only paint a fraction of a picture" when it suits you - I would have said that 0 goals and 1 assist is relatively damning, especially when £30M is being quoted for a player having his first really good season

Is Joel Ward at Palace a left-back or right-back ?

He looked good against Chelsea recently, tall, strong, rangy, quick and comfortable on the ball. His name has been bandied around as the best young English talent this season. Bet he'd be a lot cheaper than Luke Shaw as well.

Of course stats are used to suit, hence why you have chosen to do so.

He is a defender by the way.....his assists and goals are not my main concern.Put Kolarov in that Saints side and and you would see a player with far less time and space, which allows him his opportunities, while being destroyed far more often than he does with us.

Shaw, may not have the 'killer' cross but he generally has better ability on the ball,is more composed and is a superior athlete, whether or not he is worth the price tag is irrelevant to that.

this is the transfer forum, whether he is worth the price tag is almost THE fundamental question. Most people would agree that a key part of our fullbacks jobs is to get forward and create chances, and this appears to be one of the things that people like about Shaw - the stats tend to suggest he isn't creating many goals but I do take your point about stats, and it could be that he is creating loads of chances but they are not being converted, I guess there is a stat about that somewhere? For £30M I would suggest he ought to be close to the best left back in the world, but I don't think he is, personally

I've seen Shaw put killer crosses in, saw him do a couple in one game. He might not have the assists to back it up yet but they'll come. You can see he's got it, or at least the potential to very much have it at some point
