Seems a rather high price for a young player with only a season or so of top level football.

They're desperate and in need of a shake up. It's needed.Blue Shield said:Seems a rather high price for a young player with only a season or so of top level football.

I think it will be a club move anyway, Shaw is one of the brightest English prospects out there and most if not all the top 4 would want him in their side, plus he is homegrown.

Get the impression Ed Woodward is the one doing the buying, with Moyes having identified the players to purchase.

I'm pretty sure Moyes was given the boot a few weeks ago mate
This would definitely be a 'club' purchase regardless of who is in charge
It wouldn't surprise me if GPC had his eye on him from last season

Age hasn't completely dulled my senses, thank you. :-)
I read somewhere that Moyes had already agreed a list of targets with Woodward before his departure, and that despite his leaving, the board was quite happy to follow through on their priority deals, and quickly. Should they make a string of signings in the coming weeks, I'll be paying close attention to see whether or not they have a 'Moyes stamp' about them.

Only winding :)
If they had it in their mind that they were going to sack Moyes I cant imagine they will have sat down with him and discussed his ideas for transfers
If its true about Van Gaal coming in then he will want to be in discussions in signing new players
I would say that signing Shaw is a no brainer, irrespecitve of who is in charge, He's a talented young Englishman so ticks all the boxes.

As I said, I'll wait and see who else they sign, but Moyes' strength was identifying young players, and Van Gaal will likely be there for a maximum of 2-3 years, so his input might not have been that significant. The guy Woodward is now the head man, so the decisions being taken are his. If we seriously wanted Shaw, Lallana, or Barkley, then we would have them lined up, but the only boxes they tick are being young and English.

Ready to spend a fortune though, Shaw is the first of 5 or 6. And the lunatic Van Gaal will get more out of a few players like Mata and Van Persie.
FFP in effect here, Southampton selling to United (and Lallana to Liverpool) after building a tidy team that could have gone places. If Cortese was still around, though, it might be different.
At least Reus is staying at BVB, United really wanted him.
