Maicon

I've said it elsewhere but I'll state it again for the record. Whilst Maicon has got a good cross on him his general play is poor. I don't recall during the recent Confederations Cup him ever winning a defensive tackle. Players take him on and skin him every time. I understand that our full backs need to be attack minded but not just a right/left winger. They need to be full backs. We have 3 players who can do a very good job at full back and I'd want them in the team before Maicon every day. Does no-one remember when Zab was given free license to break forward how good he was (I forget which game it was but he was our man of the match). He broke into the box constantly and caused the defence numerous problems. I know he's not the best defensively but he walks all over Maicon in defense. Richards does too but needs a little more control going forward. If Maicon comes I will cheer him with all my heart and hope he destroys teams but I will be somewhat gutted that we got a right back when we didn't need one. I would like at least some of our team from last year to be on the field at the start of the season. We weren't that bad! We just needed cover at CB, LB and a quality target man. Hopefully we have these now.

Nonsense.

Pardon? Qualify?

Google is your friend.

Hmmmm, you really have nothing to say do you? Even Elano could do a job at RB. Again Defensively no worse than Maicon. Means we get to keep Elano and he'd be great coming forward. So there you go Richards, Zab, Onouha, Elano could all do a job there. Why do we need Maicon? That's my point simple enough. We have more pressing weaknesses elsewhere. Target men= very important. Too often last season our defense was put under pressure needlessly because the ball came back too quickly off the front man (who failed to hold it up). This meant our defense weren't able to push up to condense the space in midfield therefore making it easier for the opposition to find space and make quick passing movements through us. This hopefully won't happen this season as often due to the arrival of RSC and hopefully Eto'o. Two vital buys for us. Barry will help covering for Robinho on the left giving Bridge a bit more support and license to go forward too (or Lescott if he's there). Another vital buy. Tevez will give us more steel and pressuring ability particularly away from home. Not a vital buy but a very useful one. Maicon would be a luxury which I would rather do with out. That's my point plain and simple.

I stopped at;
"Even Elano could do a job at RB. Again Defensively no worse than Maicon"

I've read a few moronic things in my time...

But that my friend, is in a league of its own.

PMSL.

Why do you slag off without qualifying? In what way is Maicon better defensively than Elano? I just don't see it. I made a point of him being cover there in an emergency which he certainly could. He did a decent job there under Sven. Certainly wasn't our weak link. What is your problem with what I said? You don't state what it is, you just slag off and mock! Have you anything intelligent to say?

not sure if serious.

Fuzz, the game you are talking about is Fulham away I think, he was ace on that day, too bad no one else showed up. When Zab's given permission to bomb down the wing and overlap he can put in some great crosses.

I had a feeling it was Fulham away because I had the impression that Bullard got man of the match and I thought Zab was more deserving. Cheers for that.

Why? Have you even seen Maicon look good in defense? I haven't. He was beaten every time he was taken on last night and for pretty much all the tournament. He's also looked suspect on the few times I've seen him for Inter.

with the likes of robihno tevex eto'o ireland wright phillips elano bellamy santa cruz petrov, Id rather have a full back that can defend, I think we may find we have attacking options elsewhere in the team.

Ignorance is bliss.

The man can defend. He's much better defensively than Zabaleta and Richards, and as for going forward is concerned... take a look at his assists this season for Inter - phenomenal.

Do a little research before you jump to conclusions...

thanks for the glib and arrogant response. I would still prefer full backs that can defend, don't think I mentioned Zabeleta or Richards did I? Didnt critisize his ability to go forward did I?

try reading posts before replying, I did try and keep it short for you.
