Maine Rd terrace characters

There was a ginger haired guy (surprisingly we called him Ginge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) who rocked up in the 80s with a radio stuck to his head listening to scores.
We'd be 3-0 down somewhere, having not had a shot, and he'd suddenly blurt out score from a different division!

Absolute legend and it was always comforting to know that Bristol Rovers had just scored at Exeter!!!!!!
Used to go to away games with his radio as well. Always on his own as well, wonder what happened to him.

Great days late 70’s early 80’s around the kippax tunnel next to the away fans, including girls. Walking back to town, going Wimpy and dossing around meeting like minded blues from around Manchester. Especially when scousers were arriving early. Everton QF replay 81, was a mad night.

With all the talk of the Prospect of Whitby pub in Wapping earlier in this thread. My daughter and I are going down to London for the weekend and I’m going to pop in for pre match pint on Sunday before the Arsenal game.

If we're talking about the same guy I remember walking out of Leeds Road Huddersfield after a pathetic 1-0 defeat (circa March/April 88) totally pissed off, and fully resigned to another season in the Second Division.

This bloke suddenly turned around with a huge transistor radio glued to his ear:

"Tranmere have equalised at Wrexham"

None of us said a word, but when we got back to the car, the first score we heard on Sports Report was Wrexham 3 Tranmere 0.

Cue four blokes in hysterics and an in-joke for years as every embarrassing City defeat was greeted with "Tranmere have just scored"
