When are we meant to be getting this surprise signing then?

The 'nice surprise' is the gig to launch the shirt.

All signings are surprise signings
.

Not so sure about that. That's like saying we should be 'surprised' that anyone signs for City.

Its weeks now we're linked on TV, Paper and Internet Media for Tevez, Eto, Lescott, Maicon and Toure.
Even you know about all of them right?

The point is, if any of them signed, as you already have known for weeks now (that we're after them)...it won't be a surprise.

That's why the reasoning is it must be a player who we haven't been linked with.

That makes sense but I dismiss nearly all links in the media as bullshit until its official though, as we are linked with so many players, and its irrelevant how heavily we're linked with someone whether they're coming or not. Take Kaka and Barry.

Did Gary Cook say a 'surprise signing', or did he say there was a 'nice surprise'?

does that make this thread redundant then?

love it 2 be JT, but i really cant see it being a signing, how often does a signing get unveiled without any media rumour beforehand especially the calibre of player were linked to now adays, barry was fairly hush hush but 1 or 2 papers had a story on it. i hope im wrong i really do but i cant see how we'd have a top player lined up and no 1 new about it, also the club selling this top player would come in 4 immense critsism from there own fans and people for selling 1 of there prize assets in an under hand way. but i do wanna be proved wrong on this.

Well he has had several flaws throughout his career:

Cannot get past a player on the wing

When playing MF - did not really ever break the opposition play up / put in a tackle etc - he is unable to play people in - he either goes for the 'killer' 30 yard ball or just knocks it square

He has never really had any pace

---------------------------------------------------------

He made up for these flaws by being a tremendous taker of free kicks - it got such that the scums strategy was to basically fall over around the box to give the specialist a chance - and with our referees - guess what...

But now he seems to have lost that special touch on free kicks - and / or we have other players to take them

And without that he has no real appeal - he would be a liability and taking up a space for little benefit

Ps - him playing for England is an absolute disgrace - that is alll to do with the FA having him as some 'modern icon' and therefore they want him to set a new record for caps - a travesty to the memory of Bobby Morore and others - Capello will be glad when it is done so he does not have to bring him on for little cameos any more

Amaing, really amazing, it's a disgrace to have him in the England team? Even though in the 2008/09 season he set up more goals than any other player on the team? Please explain how having a player set up more goals than anyone else is a disgrace to have him in. This isn't opinion, which can be argued one way or another, this is simple fact, Beckham, who some people wrongly feel is past it and doesn't deserve to be in the England team, has set up more goals in the last year for them, than any other player in the team.

I still think it could be the stadium. When the arabs first bought us, the young lady who brokered the deal said that they had the choice of three clubs. Us Liverpool and Newcastle if my memory serves me right. One of the main reasons they bought us was the land surrounding the stadium and its potential and the stadium already being in place, and existing fan base etc. It is funny that they managed to secure building permision so quickly to build the new offices near the main entrance. As i very much doubt we would have planned this before the takeover as money would have been needed elsewhere, and would the council give permission to build on their land anyway?
Just a thought on Garry Cooks comments that it doesn't make sense to buy, when thats why they chose us in the first place
Food for thought anyway!

How can it be a surprise when everyone knows about the gig..??..
