Man City vs Reading - Post Match Discussion

We had three shots on target.
Reading should have had a penalty when Nasty used his in our own box.

Yes I'd say we had our fair share of luck today. Not that we couldn't have won the game without it, but we clearly had some luck.

We should have had a penalty for foul on Yaya and possibly another shirt pull on Tevez, but not seen a replay of that. I also thought that Kolo might have been fouled in move that lead to Nasty handball.

We had players getting wide all day...so we didn't pass to them or left it so late that they were covered.

When they did get it, they just cut in each time. Second half, we got the ball out there directly and more quickly for 10 mins...so they could cut in again, then we stopped.

We stopped all the positive moves that we saw in the first half (going down our left, Aguero cutting across their CBs who couldn't catch him.)
Thought we were set to make it count second half, but then we stopped movement in the front line altogether - making it easier for Reading to defend. They sert up to stop us down the middle, and we didn't think to try anything different.

Garcia - not pushing into the big spaces in front of him to set up new attack - why??? Like watching a stage struck teenager who just gave it to someone else nearby to play it safe (back or sideways at all times).

Yaya's passing 2nd half appalling and nearly blew the game for us. He gradually went further and further back as the game wore on.

Zab - awesome, to the extent that he not only looked like Bobby Moore reborn in his own position, but also decided he could do a better job playing wide left (at the same time) than the specialist winger we just brought on.

Sinclair (sorry lad, I was hoping for the best, but after watching him woefully waste the 3 possessions he got and then turn into another statue we didn't need on the pitch, I have to say...) ...dogsh*te.

Rekik - nice enough debut - had to recover a couple of times, but looked good on the ball and showed a couple of nice pieces of football. Glad we had Barry to look after him in first half and get him bedded in.

Final word - FFS, 3 shots on goal all game!!! When will we realise that we don't need to walk it in and start causing some panic with shots when we get a sight of goal around the edge of the area!?!

Got to admire our spirit though. Despite trying to the same thing over and over and failing, we kept going and got the three points. Imagine how scary we would be if we did the obvious things a bit better? (Or just did them, for starters.) It would be back to start of last year again.

Points in the bag, job done, - just.

Robbie Savage said (on 606 earlier) that persistent and heavy rain is a leveller and thats what made today a great win. He speaks from experience, I suppose.

The thing that did piss me off today was the constant time wasting, kicking the ball dead after Joe Hart had stopped play for one of their players, (a right twats trick,) walking off when 'Injured' via the longest route possible and a goalie who did everything but light a fag before returning the ball to play. I had some sort of affection for Reading prior to today but not now, their manager was saying in some interview or other that he would always try to win, no matter who they played. Bollox. If he wanted to play all in defence, why not say so?
A bloke next to me was fucking apoplectic; rightly so.

You don`t sit in CB3 do you ??

re: the goal, Barry had every right to jump for it...Shorey didn't jump for it or try to play the ball, so if there is any infraction then he obstructed Barry by backing into him. If we want to be really mean, he should have been carded, possibly sent off for trying to impede a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Not that I'm being particularly serious about this last point, but it's something to throw back at Brian Mcthingy when he starts moaning with as much if not more substantiation than just, 'It was a definite foul' + provide no reasonable justification as to why = FAIL.

Like i stated above , West Ham scored a similar goal a few weeks ago , that stood ...... it's a fine line , but if a defender seemingly has little intention of going for the ball , then he shouldn't be surprised if he loses out to a more determined opponent who does !

Exactly, he turned his back on it and did nothing.

Well played Gaz, great leap.

Watched MOTD and I didn't realise what a great goal it was. One of our best of the season.

Long pass from Milner, great hold up and control from Dzeko, perfect cross from Silva, and a great header. We could have lobbed it in the box at several stages in that move but carried on with our football

If you watch it again he does do something; he actually tries to back into Barry without making any attempt for the ball whatsoever, so fuck him.

Totally unimpressive performance. Barry chooses today to pop up with his one goal of the season for 2012-13 and gets us out of jail. Not expecting much better against a physical, spoiling Stoke team on NY Day. Nice to get 3 points today even though we were awful.

FFS...

Hahhaaaaaaaaaa.Come on mate where do you sit and yes I was going a bit mental due to us trying to walk the fucking ball in.What would "this person" look like. ;)

Hart - 7, didn't really have anything to do.

Zabaleta - 8, the man is a hero.
Kolo Toure - 7, another comfortable display.
Nastasic - 7, another comfortable display.
Rekik - 7, did well on his debut, was often in great positions but ignored.

Yaya - 6, mis-placed far too many passes in the first half and only really picked up the pace towards the end.
Barry - 6, despite the goal he was pretty dreadful, giving the ball away needlessly at times.
Garcia - 7, an assured display, confidence is increasing.
Silva - 7, probing but never threatening until the cross for the goal.

Aguero - 6, industrious but relatively quiet.
Tevez - 6, same as above.

I thought we were woeful and I thought Reading were fantastic, even though they were time wasting from the first 10 minutes.

The Rekik incident was never a Penalty, but they have a strong case for Handball from the original cross. As for Barry's winner - Nicky Shorey should have cleared it but gambled on getting a free kick, as soon as it went in I looked at the Ref. If that had been Crouch,Rooney,Suarez,Torres on Zabs or Vinny and the Goal given I would be incandescent with rage.

We really, really got out of Jail today.

A win is is a win, but what a shite game, why are we always trying to walk the ball in the back of the net.

Zab or Vinnie would have attacked the ball, not backed into the player

To all of those doom merchants on this forum tonight.

WE WON THE FECKIN GAME!!!!!

This site makes me want to top myself sometimes. Have a look at the stats, we battered them FFS!! They came with a gameplan, hang on like your life depends on it and dont get beat. Fair play to Reading, they nearly pulled it off but trying to play against that is hard graft. We are the CHAMPIONS, our home record is absolutley feckin brilliant for a reason and teams are going to come here and make it hard.

Ive said it before and I will say it again, defending your title is harder than winning it.

Job done today, move on.

Sensible posts are banned after midnight, didn't you get the memo :p

I agree, to many doom merchants.
