Manchester’s Changing Skyline

Gleenbrook - Instagram.

We’ve been touring our Glenbrook sites this week, including a trip to Lumina Village in Trafford

This major scheme will see the creation of 639 homes on the 12-acre former Kellogg’s site in Trafford Council’s Civic Quarter.

They better not touch the toast rack!

The Toast Rack is in a very poor state. But it looks as if it can still be redeveloped.

Put Toast Rack into Youtube search. There are plenty of videos from inside it and and via drones.

I used to live in Longsight, about 10 mins walk from the rack. Shame to hear about it having seen better days. It's an iconic building. To me, anyway. Memories of a happy childhood. Isn't it a listed building? Is Manchester Grammar School still there? We lived on Birch Hall Lane, about 50 yards from the main gates.

It’s listed.(corrected)
Manchester Grammar School is still there.

The Toast Rack was put up for sale in June 2023.

Estrela Properties is looking to offload the listed Modernist building, which sits at the centre of a 3.7-acre site awaiting redevelopment.
The Toast Rack building itself, sold to Estrela by Manchester Metropolitan University for £5m in 2014, would be converted into apartments.

Real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield has been instructed by its current owner, an overseas private investor, to sell the unique asset along with adjacent buildings.

Located in Fallowfield, Manchester’s student district, the 3.71-acre site comprises the Toast Rack, Horseshoe, Gateway site and Stitching Hall. The current owner is looking to sell the entire site which already has detailed planning consent for extensive future development.
