Seven years ago, the Paterson building which housed our Manchester Institute tragically burned down. It was a dark time as many scientists watched years’ worth of work go up in flames – but this is a story of resilience. Within weeks, they were back to working on more potentially life-saving research in a temporary lab space – and this year, the doors opened to a brand new facility.
Over the last few years, we’ve worked with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester on securing funds to come back bigger, better, and more visionary than ever. And we’ve done just that – through insurance payments, philanthropic giving, local charity support, and investment from government agencies, this new £150m research site has risen from the ashes.

Works are underway on site at St Micheal’s where McCrory Construction have a team undertaking the structural alterations and facade restoration package️ The guys have started work to carefully alter the internal layout of the former Bootle Street Police Station building With a full clean and restoration of the stunning Portland stone facade to follow in the coming weeks. A sneak peek of our work on the famous Port Street Project in ManchesterAs part of our work on this project we will be delivering the brick and blockwork package which will consist of facing brickwork, insulation, channel, fire barriers, EPDM, masonry support, brick soffit system, internal blockwork, wind posts, fire stopping and scaffolding. We’re delighted to be working with RENAKER again on this one after the huge success of the Colliers Yard, Bankside project earlier this year.
