Manchester’s Changing Skyline

London Road Fire Station Rdevelopment.

Work started in 2017 or 2018, I’m not 100% sure, and is still on-going.

Click on the links below to find out more about the redevelopment of LRFS.

There have been quite a few changes to the original plans since the website was launched, so LRFS.com, below, isn’t 100% accurate anymore.

The first link is to the covering letter. A interesting read.
The second link is to the full PA.
The mural images in the PA are slightly hazy.

Painting of a mural for a temporary period of 24 months

Avison Young has been instructed by Global Street Art (‘the Applicant’) to submit an Advert Consent and Listed Building Consent for a proposed mural on the southern elevation of 12 Piccadilly, Manchester. The formal description of development, as set out on the application forms, is as follows:

Submitted for planning and tender, the project focuses on transforming and extending an existing bank into PBSA student accommodation and retail.

The scheme pays respect to the existing materiality and structure on site by utilising and repurposing the concrete shell and cladding.

The facade has been transformed through the introduction of a larger grid and new window module without compromising the structural shell of the building.

A rooftop extension adds much needed additional space to the site whilst improving the building’s proportions and an extension of the building on Oxford Road is introduced to ‘complete’ the corner of the site and align the building to the street edge.

Now; THAT is what I call a building, not these identikit tower blocks that are going up all over the City Centre, particularly down the end of Deansgate.

Got this photo from 23rd July 2011, anyone have a similar photo from recently to compare ?
