Manchester traffic

Anyone get stuck in the jam last night because of the rags game and the roadworks they are doing on Regent Road? Gridlocked one side of Manchester and a 40 minute journey on a bus took nearly 3 hours. I hope the fuckers dont end up in the europa league would mean a few more journeys home like last nights.
Yep, had to stop off in town on my way home from Preston last night. Total gridlock added 90 minutes to my journey and I missed the first 15 minutes of the match. Luckily I got in before the goals.

I am having to stay in town now 4 nights a week instead of 3 due to the missus kicking me out. Fucking brilliant.
You can't fool us!

There's a report in today's MEN about the dangerous levels of pollution on Gtr Manchester's roads. Oddly enough many of those self-same roads have had traffic restricting measures such as bus and cycle lanes put in place. It's the next stage in the master-plan for the Mayor we didn't want to impose the congestion charge we voted against.

Haha! Maybe - last night was a joke. I had to get home to see the kids. didn't even bother with the car and got the Mrs to pick me up in Altrincham - got on the tram at Piccadilly. I kid you not it would have been impossible to pay so I didn't. Then was cramped up with a load of rags - I got one of them (over form Dublin for the game) going on about how shit Lukaku was and Sanchez etc and then after about twenty minutes I told him I was a fanatical blue!

One question on these road works - why the fuck are the company doing it not working double shifts? Should be 24 hour working on this with the effect it is having.

And you are totally correct about congestion charge. It will happen.

Does anyone actually know what these Regent Roads works will achieve?

Went to a show at the Opera House last night. 55 minutes to drive from Flixton to Quay St..I had thought the train & Metro would be full of rags so avoided it. Every road I tried to dodge the rags was log jammed. Chester Rd, Talbot Rd,Kings Rd all rammed then Mancunian way roundabout and Deansgate just static. Then coming home I nearly ran over dark clothed raggies jumping out in front of the crawling traffic.
Never again , I had booked tickets way back before fixtures came out.

Always drive to the game from Warrington, not anymore train so much easier and less stressful, and can now have a beer, win win.

I left town around 1830hrs,took me 50 mins to get to Swinton.I ended up doubling back from near Albert Park and driving up towards Prestwich and down through Agecroft. An absolute pisstake.

Are there too many people living there now? I’ve been on the Wilmslow Road and Stockport Road corridor and would get around with ease on the buses. This was well over a decade ago.

According to the MEN they have to stop work at 7pm as its unfair on the local residents, but surely they would rather the roadworks sped up than having miles and miles of polluting traffic outside for hours?

Every Authority has to produce an Air Quality Plan .I can only think these have been massaged for years. Anyone in Trafford living on a 500 yds corridor alongside Junctions 7 to 8 of the M60 must have pollutant figures off the chart for a decade.

I have got a couple of terraces in urmston about 50 yards from the motorway. The windows get black in a week. Fuck knows what it must do to your lungs.

Why don’t they build an underground for trains and cars? Seems London get tens of billions and subsidies.

This is the answer isn’t it. Even if they did one route under princess parkway to the edge of town and the same along wilmslow road in years to come it would save thousands of car journeys.

I saw sir Howard talk about the city needing an underground within ten years at his retirement dinner. It needs to happen. All mega cities have an underground and we are heading to a mega city status.

London has a machine making tunnels for new sewers those tunnels are massive costing over 5 billion surely Manchester could build a couple of tunnels even if it’s just for cars and buses.
