I'm not sure it's that cut and dried. I suspect that although there's an informal agreement in place between City and MP, there's no signed contract ergo if Barcelona really do want him, and he really does want to go there, we might have a problem.

If that does happen, whoever is behind MP on our shortlist (my guess De Boer) - will have already agreed unconditionally to take the job if it was offered.

I hope you are right that de Boer is next in line but I fear it could be Rafa.

Mancini didn't screw up preparation for the FA Cup final because of this rumour coverage. But if he did, then it further emphasizes why he shouldn't be our manager.

If the club didn't wish to make a rod for their own back then maybe they shouldn't have publicly courted another manager during the season.

To be honest, outside of this forum I have not seen us bludgeoned for sacking Mancini.

The City hierarchy seem unconcerned. The loss to Wigan blunted any significant criticism of the move outside of City fans.

I keep reading on this forum that we've embarrassed ourselves, that we've handled it badly, but it seems the only thing we've done wrong is allow Mancini to stay and make embarrassing statements to the press. If the club had known he would use the press conferences as forum to bash club employees, we might have shown him the door after the Wigan loss.

Even if Mancini is getting sacked, which seems certain, the fact the club didn't come out back the manager on Saturday was a monumental mistake.

I don't get you, what they need to say in that case on Saturday?

We had a cup final to play..they should have said sommat..even if they were talking bollox..

Firstly, the initial leak does not come out if City, they are playing catch-up in the team hotel on the morning of a Cup Final.

While much of what you've said is fine, this is where I don't understand it, because the word was all over the net by 8pm (ish) on Friday evening. This was well before it hit the media big time, now I don't know if City were aware of it, but they certainly should have been, because social media at City is supposedly taken very seriously, and it was from here that the news came about a couple of big punts on Pellegrini that had shortened his odds at a couple of bookies. I'm sure someone monitors social media, or had we taken our eye off the ball because it was the night before the cup final ? I'm sure it could have been better contained at this point, but hindsight is as always a wonderful thing.

I was under the impression it had leaked from the Spanish media. Not a lot city could do about that.

But with people saying the club couldn't have made a statement if the rumors were true because then they'd be seen as liars obviously, the way to avoid that is to not allow for said rumors to start by publicly pursuing another manager whilst you already have one.
