Mancini (cont)

Hello Chaps. Been away for a couple of weeks. Had a feeling the canonisation of Saint Bob would have started ;-)

To be fair, he's got it right in the last two games and we've suddenly, more or less for the first time this season, started playing at the right level. Seeing us play Man United off the park the other night just begged the question as to how the hell we've ended up 12 points behind them, of course. I've been saying all season that we are better than them and I think we have outplayed them for the last six derbies now.

Funnily enough, I actually believe Mancini is more likely to be staying next year than I did a few weeks ago. I have never, ever seen him look so nervous before a game as for the derby, which suggested to me there was a lot at stake for him, especially following the Abu Dhabi visit.

Big decisions won't be made on one or two results of course but a storming end to the season isn't going to do him any harm.

As is standard practice for this type of stuff, two different groups saying two very different things regarding his future. One group saying the decision's been made and he's definitely staying, and the other saying the decision's been made and he's definitely going. It's a very hard one to call and I am if nothing else very impressed by no press either on the record of off policy which Txiki and Ferran have. It's meant everyone's guessing, the only odd thing is that it seems that includes the manager and players.

I don't need to read the thread Billy, I know exactly what will be being said and by who.

I said early in the season that these two big fixtures would have a big bearing on Mancini's popularity amongst the high number of "swing" voters and I'm sure that's happened.

Just great to see us play to our potential at last and he has to be given credit for that. He did well putting the 4231 out at Old Trafford. Good decision to get all over their midfield.

You don't really need to post anything else either

It's a subjective argument but I'm more than comfortable in the opinion that Dzeko, Tevez, and Aguero are better than anyone in the league barring Van Persie and maybe at a push Suarez.
They are but only 2 were available to Mancini through the season, and the issue is not how good the strikers are but how good they are in our team. Dzeko doesn't suit our team as it is, but get a good winger and change our player slightly and he could be perfect.

Why were only two available ?

I'll answer that. Because Aguero was injured, and Balotelli was not managed. It's a situation of Mancini's own making and it doesn't mitigate a single thing about the season in my opinion. Plenty of things Mancini can point to, but his handling of his attacking players this season is one of the one of the metaphorical blots on his copy book. From early doors he was highly critical and lamented not signing Van Persie. His on again off again love affair with Mario cost the team , and his handling of Mario around the derby was appalling. Makes me cringe just thinking about it ...
I agree mancini placed a lot of trust in mario and it back-fired on him / us.

He played a vital role in the title-winning season. Not the major striking role, but a vital support role, and after the Euros you could imagine him taking a leap forward

Are you just being wise with hindsight?

A damn sight happier than they were, Marvin. There was something very sweet about the derby victory, and I enjoyed it by making a tool of myself roaring and bouncing around a Lincolnshire pub. Wembley was fun too. Only got back last night ;-)

What a crass comment. Just because some oppose your opinion you want Mancini replaced I don't that does not mean I want him to be put on a pedestal or canonised

Based on what just because you haven't read about it in the papers does not mean that internally the players and managers don't know what is happening. No doubt there will be a review at the end of the season like there was last and decisions will be taken then what is hard to guess about that.

I could point out an article in The Observer being put out as support for Mancini but it also may be made up bollocks
The current champions are planning another show of strength in the transfer market, with their chief executive, Ferran Soriano, privately acknowledging that the club made serious errors of judgment last summer when Brian Marwood was in charge of recruitment.

Soriano, who was not at the club at the time, believes Mancini has genuine grievances after they lost out on Robin van Persie to United, as well as other targets including Eden Hazard and Oscar, and ended up with Javi García, Maicon, Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair.

The former Barcelona executive expects to sign three or four established players and has spoken behind the scenes about the importance of each of them being an upgrade on players currently in those positions. He has also confirmed there will be a considerable exodus of Mancini's fringe players.

Clearly however some people want Mancini out no matter what and will continue to debate this ad nauseum

With respect to Mancini's position, it still confounds me that City have remained totally silent and are seemingly happy for us to be linked with a host of new managers without once saying either publicly or privately in categorical terms - Mancini will be manager next season. It's not hard to do and it would have put this thread to bed, certainly with respect to his potential sacking, if not with the discussions surrounding his perceived weaknesses as a manager.

Last time Soriano said anything about Mancini it was described as a "dreaded vote of confidence". Just not worth the bother (especially considering they may not have actually made up their mind yet).

That's right. Never believe the rumours UNTIL THEY ARE OFFICIALLY DENIED!
