mancini or mourinho? or mancini vrs mourinho

I just wish we had some teeth in the middle to see what Mancini would do with it (really hoped it would be Ireland or M. Johnson this year but hasn't worked out that way). Is he in love with the terribly negative middle of De Jong, Zab, and Barry or is he doing the best with what he has?

I hate how negatively we start games and only really come on once we concede. Not sure it is all Mancini's fault though. Wish the January window would have played out differently. My gut tells me Mancini will come good eventually if we make a few key buys in the summer. In the meantime we need to trick our players into thinking we are starting all games down 2-0 and there's only 30 minutes left.

Go on then DD, If you will indulge me, I'll have a go at answering the questions...

He did spend in January.. £8m on Johnson. He also tried to sign Gago and Fariga for around £22m... that means the club were prepared to commit themselves to £30m in the January window, and had the "admin" not cocked up, this wouldn't have been an issue. This sort of sum doesn't suggest a lack of faith in the manager...yes?

No house over here... Sven got a three year deal at City and lived in a hotel for the full 12 months he was here. Mancini just can't uproot his family and drag them over to a new country in the space of 6 months... maybe that will all be sorted out in the summer? Isn't that a more reasonable excuse for him living alone at the moment? Maybe him and his missus have problems? Maybe he's happy being over here on his own? Who knows for certain? But it's clearly not just an indication that he's only got a 6 month contract.

Backroom team? Well he's brought over a goalkeeping coach, a fitness trainer and an assistant manager... he's probably only a couple of coaches away from his full entourage, and maybe they're just not available at the moment... and this too will be resolved in the summer? I'm not sure any more coaches at the moment would make any difference anyway... it seemed to be just Hughes that was obsessed with having a team of 30 back-up staff.

Maybe the "get-out" was for his benefit, in case he didn't fancy the job, or the country? Why assume it was just for City's benefit?

The "open secret" that he had a getout clause... see previous comment.

The other comment you make is just speculation and cannot be confirmed.

And that, your honour, is my case for the defence...

I'm a bit busy to put together a case for the prosecution, Soulboy, but my first comment is that there are a lot of maybes in your thread, and none in mine.

Yet I am accused of speculation...

Time will tell....whodunnit eh ??

Yours are all "maybes"! There is no speculation on my part... just a different way of looking at the situation.

You don't know the exact contract situation... only the club would know that for certain, and if you can provide evidence I will accept it... otherwise it's still speculation.

I am only giving alternative reasons for your questions. And you can't disagree with a single element of it... can you?

What have I said that is wrong? Is my defence "reasonable"... the balance of proof certainly doesn't point to Mancini being "out" in the summer.

But we can only wait... the bet is on!

It's just my opinion on how I read things... just like yours was... yes?

-- Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:14 pm --

You forgot to address the "he didn't spend money" and "he's got no staff with him" points... but, hey, like you say, your answer was a lot quicker than mine!

I think we'll see Benitez at Real Madrid, Mancini at Liverpool and Mourinho at City. Everybody happy?

He bought one young player who we have been tracking a long time.

And one has-been on a temporary deal for...6 months.
And he loaned one player out for...erm...6 months...

With regards to the backroom team, he was given a number two from within the existing setup. A bloke he had probably barely heard of. How many times has that happened before?

Anyway, you are right, all will become clear in due course....

Yeah, the ten chances we created were just not enough... far too negative, eh?

Doh!

To be fair to Pam we were a goal down and resoundingly second best before we changed the system away from the 3 defensive midfielders.

It was arguably the worst 45 minutes of the season and it cost us 2 points.

I ackowledge on another day we would have scored 3 or 4 in that second half though.

We need a playmaker and Stephen Ireland is the closest thing we have to that.

Mancini.

Not saying I don't like Mourinho, he's clearly an excellent manager and has entertainment value too. But I think Mancini is a good man an excellent manager too, who can take us where we want to go, particularly with a full summer window to bring in his players, to add to the wealth of talent we already have, and build his team.
