This CL discussion is bloody well silly. We will strengthen in the summer and get through any group they care to chuck at us. We very nearly made it out of the group in our very first season in the CL and yet this is held up as abject failure In reality, it was just dumb luck and inexperience. Only one team had ever failed to qualify on ten points. This season's group stage performances were abject right enough, but honestly I think we'll make it into the knockouts come what may next season.
Living in never never land are Pam.Wake up City after do a lot better in europe now not in a few years. You get more prize money for the champions league than you do for winning the F.A cup.Even Spurs have done better than us in the Champions league.

This is a top post.

However it will be ignored either because some fans believe our European ineptitude should be swept under the carpet or they are too busy living off the title last season they fail to realise the importance of progressing in the CL so we have any chance of meeting FFP.
How long have you been a Manchester City fan?

It was my ambition to one day sing Abide with me at Wembley and I gave up even dreaming about winning the League as a boy. Now we have done it back to back, and you want to discuss changing the manager because we're unlikely to retain the title back to back?!

If only Man Utd fans had been so fickle
My whole post talks about the importance of CL for our financial stability and you say I want the manager sacked because we can't win the title. Christ

For what it's worth I've had a season ticket since the 94/95 season.

The financial impact CL is important but overstated quite a bit.

We earned about £20m odd less than Chelsea last season, the gap between us and the winner will be smaller this season.

We'll need to do better in the CL to enhance the reputation and standing the club. And if we don't get out of the group stages next season under RM I'm sure he won't get another chance.

But the money we've made by being league champions far outweighs the money we've lost by the failure in this seasons champions league.

. All teams nearly guaranteed 6 points against villa real and 3 points v a bayern team all ready into next round, 10 points was the least we should have got.

Unfortunately Pam it's not that silly at all - it is a genuine concern that we've not performed that well this year, granted it was a tough group but some of our individual displays were pretty poor. So it's fair point to bring up in this context at least.
I think it just boils down to your feelings overall on Mancini, if you think he's the man to take us on you put your trust in him to succeed next year - if not you use it as a blotch against him.
I'm of the former myself.

Has the Pellegrini/Klopp stuff from Duncan Castles been discussed in this thread yet? I'm not sure how true it is but I think Castles is better than the usual red top hacks and has some actual sources. Anyway, he said Pellegrini has politely rejected us and we've turned our attention to Klopp. Honestly I think Klopp will less-than-politely reject us unless we can really sell the project to him... and even then...

If we're looking for a stable 'project builder', hence ruling Mourinho out, and are getting rejected by top choices it'd probably be best to stay with Mancini IMO.

I posted it earlier this morning, but it didn't get much discussion.

I agree that there isn't much chance of Klopp saying yes to us. Moreover, I'm not sure which proven managers would be further down the list behind Pep and Pellegrini, who are reportedly not options, and Klopp, who I assume won't be an option either.

What I thought was interesting about Castles' piece was that he's seemed very well sourced from within the Mourinho camp about the end of Jose's time at Chelsea and certain aspects of Jose's career since. He not only suggested that City (or at least Ferran and Txiki) are cool on Mourinho, but also that Jose isn't that sold on the idea of working with them. If that's true, I think it's rather significant news.

The thing which caught my eye was the reasoning behind why City are looking to replace Mancini. The Jose stuff isn't really a surprise if we're honest. Only thing I'd say is if there is any interest in Abu Dhabi in bringing Mourinho to City and Txiki/Ferran block it, it'll be a bigger call than the one to not give him the Barca job.

It suggests the same doubts that those of us who aren't so sure about Mancini would point to - man management and Europe. It's also consistent with a theory someone put to be back in November: if Ferran and Txiki don't think Mancini is the right man long term and he doesn't win the league this season, they'd look to act now because Abu Dhabi wouldn't sanction a sacking of a title winning manager.

Incidentally Castles has seemed to be well sourced from within Mourinho's camp in the past, not least with a very detailed and interesting piece when Jose left Chelsea but also since then. That was why I was interested in his suggestion that Mourinho wouldn't be keen on working in the set up we now have.

Anyway, with Pep out of the running, Pellegrini as well, Klopp looking a long shot based on everything he's said so far and Jose supposedly not keen, it does suggest that there isn't much choice in terms of proven high class candidates to replace Mancini. A case of staying by default - 'faute de mieux', as I believe they say round your way?

I see the outers were out in full force last night
Am really sorry we won boys and pissed on your chips :)

Does anyone think Mancini himself might decide enough is enough at the end of this season?
He was lining up alternative jobs for himself towards the end of last season, when it looked like we'd blown the league, and he'd be given the sack. Whats different this season, apart from the fact we have actually lost the league this season.
It wouldn't shock me to see Mancini leave of his own doing this summer.
