Mancini quote in MEN: "two or three more players"

Even if we were signing Hummels/Silva/whoever, selling Lescott would be madness. Surely this season has taught us that Kompany and Lescott are the only CBs we can rely on so even if we bought another we'd still need Lescott because of the sheer amount of fixtures we have.

Simply put, we can't afford to sell Lescott. He is English, reliable, experienced, and international and a credit to English football.

We are going to have a tough time getting our English minimum if we sell or let go of more than 1 English player. Owen is likely to leave, and one of Milner or AJ due to starting issues. When that happens, we pretty much can't sell any other English player even if we wanted to.

Exactly,he's a competent 2nd choice,he would make an awesome third.

Many others will leave long before Lescott.

martinez or modric please.

talk of nzonzi???
not seen that much of him, but never really stood out for me.

a pacey winger is a must also

-- Sat Apr 07, 2012 4:05 pm --

lesott and kompany are a good pairing .
the problems start when kompany is out.
lescott and toure, toure and savic, lescott and savic arent strong enough.
we need a top class centre half, although if it were me id play richards there.

I felt this way after watching the last 2 matches over with Micah at CD. Both Chelsea and Stoke. Micah is actually the 2nd best CD on our books. But when I thought about it again, I realized, pushing Micah to the Center will mean we have to go look for a top notch RB. Frankly I think finding a top notch RB is way harder than finding a top notch CD. So we might just be better off finding a top notch CD, and pushing Micah to CD if we get really depleted.

i honestly think it would be harder to find a top notch centre half, than a top notch attacking right back.
id move micah inside next to kompany.
and may be go for a walker , or van der viel type player?
to be fair not seen much of hummels or vertonghen but for me it would take a hell of a lot to beat micah.
also we know he can play there. vertonghen or hummels there would be an element of risk involved.

il be honest though you have far more idea about foreign players than me .

but what il say is that im a shit hot judge of a player (if i say so myself haha )

I agree with you that Micah will be a fantastic CD, I just don't think it is easy finding an attacking RB. Walker and VDW are good, but the pool dries up really quickly once you go beyond one or 2 young names. Whereas, the CD pool is huge: Every league probably has five or 6 CD's that can improve us easily. RB not so much.

yes there are a few candidates at centre half.

who would you realistically go for then?

Martinez.

He also offers great versatility,he would make a superb option.

As a bonus,he may even give us an advantage with Muniain.

Regarding Marinez; I just feel what he can offer us as a CD, quite many others can too. But what he can offer is in the centre midfield is very hard to find.

When I first started watching him about 7-8 months before the U21 Euros, he played as a defensive mid, and was awesome. In the Euros he was for me the player of the tournament (mayeb a tie with Mata).

This year though, he has been used more as a CD, why that's the case I'm not sure, but I am led to believe it's due to the shortage Bilbao has in the CD area.

I hope we are interested in him mainly to play as a DCM, but also his almost unlimited versatility makes him a very competent target. He could with ease play in YaYa's more attacking role, dominate the centre of the pitch in Nigel's position and de a very good job standing in for a missing CB.

So getting Javi would mean, in my opinion, the need for a new CB falls down the pecking order though if one world class was available I would of course like us to be in with him, like Hummels for example.
