i honestly think it would be harder to find a top notch centre half, than a top notch attacking right back.
id move micah inside next to kompany.
and may be go for a walker , or van der viel type player?
to be fair not seen much of hummels or vertonghen but for me it would take a hell of a lot to beat micah.
also we know he can play there. vertonghen or hummels there would be an element of risk involved.

il be honest though you have far more idea about foreign players than me .

but what il say is that im a shit hot judge of a player (if i say so myself haha )
I agree with you that Micah will be a fantastic CD, I just don't think it is easy finding an attacking RB. Walker and VDW are good, but the pool dries up really quickly once you go beyond one or 2 young names. Whereas, the CD pool is huge: Every league probably has five or 6 CD's that can improve us easily. RB not so much.

Kelly from Liverpool would be a good aquisition, he can also play CB. My crystal ball tells me one day Kelly will play CD for England

yes there are a few candidates at centre half.

who would you realistically go for then?
Well there is the hype surrounding Hummels and Silva. Neither of whom I think will be moving anywhere soon.

For those who might actually swtich teams and in no particular order of preference (even though my hidden preference is clear :P) Martinez, Vertonghen, Mbiwa, Rami, Raul Rodriquez, Dante, and the Greek kid at Shalke. ANy of them would be a great addition

-- Sat Apr 07, 2012 12:59 pm --

I really like him. But isn't he a highly rated Liverpool prospect?

Dax,

The more i see of Kelly the more I have been impressed. Defends very well at rightback and gets forward with pace on the right and has a good range of crossing.

I'd like to think that a deal involving AJ could be put to them, with Kelly plus cash coming our way.

kelly is very highy rated at liverpool but at the same time liverpool have a right back whos rated even more highly than kelly hes a first year scholar and is already starting for their reserves. so we might be able to get kelly because he wont be playing right back when this lad breaks through and i cant see a way of him breaking through at centre back. m'biwa is very good and rami would be good, i feel we might sign martinez to play cd then sign another centre mid in the pizarro mold.

Why would they want AJ when they already have their own under performing variation in Downing? Even the king isn't that daft is he...?

1) Hazard
2) Martinez
3) Hoilett

Solves all our problems:

1. Pace
2. Width
3. Backup CB
4. Defensive midfielder who can pass

If we need an extra striker after the sales, bring back Guidetti.

We should seriously be looking at getting Hoillet on a free tbh. Could be an immense squad player for us. Especially if we ever need to change tactics & play with 2 wingers. I think he is better than AJ. He's also able to cross with his right foot on the left flank.

Makes perfect sense. He is free and has low salary. If he does poorly, we sell. If we don't need him, we sell. Either way, we paid nothing so might as well go for it.

Regarding Marinez; I just feel what he can offer us as a CD, quite many others can too. But what he can offer is in the centre midfield is very hard to find.

When I first started watching him about 7-8 months before the U21 Euros, he played as a defensive mid, and was awesome. In the Euros he was for me the player of the tournament (mayeb a tie with Mata).

This year though, he has been used more as a CD, why that's the case I'm not sure, but I am led to believe it's due to the shortage Bilbao has in the CD area.

I hope we are interested in him mainly to play as a DCM, but also his almost unlimited versatility makes him a very competent target. He could with ease play in YaYa's more attacking role, dominate the centre of the pitch in Nigel's position and de a very good job standing in for a missing CB.

So getting Javi would mean, in my opinion, the need for a new CB falls down the pecking order though if one world class was available I would of course like us to be in with him, like Hummels for example.

Got a question for you regarding Martinez.

Can he ping the ball around like Pizarro? I don't watch him much.

Not from what I have seen... but then again not many can.
He's not Busquets or Xabi Alonso, but still a far far better passer, long and short-range, than any of our other midfielders.
As a CB (more like a Mascherano-type CB than a Lescott-type CB) he uses his passing ability in defence, enabling him to dictate the play from deep.
This season, he averages over 50 passes a match and touches the ball more than any other Athletic player. Not bad coming from a CB.

PS - My friend in Spain says the Spanish media refers to Javi as as a "world class central midfielder", not centre back.

He's a good passer, but most Spanish players are. He's not an exceptional passer, however. I've yet to be 'wow'ed.
