I thought his team selection was the best available, but the substitution of Lampard for Fernandinho killed us off today. Fernando was dead on his feet and Pellers brought on a 36YO plodder to play next to him, removing the player whose legs were keeping us in the game.

Dinho was on a yellow card and risked getting a red since Arsenal were hitting us on the counter.

Pellegrini took Fernandinho off because he was dreadful. His 'legs' were mostly busy picking the wrong pass or giving the ball to the opposition. He offered nothing going forward and was absent when we needed him defensively. People talk about wasting money on Mangala but for £35 mil and with his experience Fernandinho is the problem. Fernando was dead on his feet because he was busy doing Fernandinho's defensive work as well as his own.

Far more worrying, and slowly becoming a major concern is the number of free headers we gift to opponents from set pieces. It was there on the opening day at Newcastle, but we got away with it. CSKA profited and now it’s virtually every game.

Individual errors?
Too much defensive rotation?

If it’s not Pellegrini then who is responsible?

I thought he was superb today, his energy was fantastic and he prevented many an attack, creativity was our main problem and he wasn't tasked with that.

I just dont know what the hell we gonna do vs Barca especially as we wont be able to play our usual possession game. We need to be different and still effective, also defending really well. Not against Giroud but Messi/Neymar/Suarez trio at once.

We need to be closer to them than last years tie which ended in two losses in 4-1 agg. results in two games.

These Burnley, Everton, Arsenal results costing us a lot.

Throwing away leads, 2-0, 1-0...
Giving away easy goals like stupid pens, set pieces like not tracking players with known ability as a good header. Maybe underrate opponent.
ZERO danger from corners. Maybe only danger from our corners is that they have a counter from them ffs.
Lack of concentration too.
etc.

Our first half display vs Arsenal today and the second half display vs Burnley, put that two halfs together and its some of the worst "game" for us.

We cant build on making clean sheets clearly, thats not even in Pelle's plans probably, but we really struggle in games if we cant score 3+ goals.

No way we can outscore Barca tho. We need organized defending, lots of workrate too.

Dinho is a very good assistant to Yaya but he has not proved able to fill the big man's shoes when he is absent and today he had a poor game. Pellers was absolutely right to hook him.

Who was??

The player you were wrongly slagging.

Anyway back on topic - Mr Pellegrini

Hmmm.. It might have looked different on TV but live I lost count of the times when he should have played the ball forward to make the most of intelligent runs from Silva and Aguero but instead took another couple of touches and ended up passing the ball sideways. I can't remember a single effective contribution he made going forward and was often nowhere to be seen when we were defending.

Let's also not forget he cost us £35 million and after a promising start last season he has been as disappointing as Mangala on a £ for £ basis this season.
