Marc-Andre ter Stegen

I'm torn on this.

Joe is a world class shot stopper, but if we get a keeper in who by his distribution limits the oppositions possession, they'd therefore face less shots than Joe does. It could be one of those where we'd end up with better results but look at the goals that do go in and think "Joe would have saved that".

But then I go back to Joe's outstanding abilities when we do need him.

I love Joe very much. But he has to step up his distribution immensely. Just watch all our games and you can see whenever the ball goes back to Hart, that's where our possession goes to the death. At that point you might as well just give it away to the opposition. He can never seem to recycle the possession.

I'd advice he works on it over the summer and stop trying to show it off this season. Since the Ter Steegen link I've noticed an uptick in Joe doing stuff he normally didn't use to do. And some have led to poor outcomes.

So let's shelf the ball playing keeper skills till Pep arrives.

Please :)

Abso-bleeding-lutely.

Yep at least once a game. That pass to Kolarov the other day was like wtf.

I agree but it's not just Joe that needs to work on it, it's the players receiving the ball as well who need to learn to control it and know what they are supposed to do with it.

I didn't think many people noticed It. This is the first time I have seen a poster talk about it. A very stupid pass again what could of cost us a goal.

However he does more good things than bad and I think we should stick with him.

Yeah just like Dax mentioned above. He's been trying to 'showcase' his distribution ever since the Ter Stegen rumors came about. Which will cause more incident like the Fernando blunder.

The only way he's gonna improve though is to do it in a real game situation. He could practice all summer but nothing will be the same as doing it in a proper game.

It's not the odd gaffe, which most keepers have in them, it's the mindlessly tonking the ball upfield. Our rate of ball retention of Joe's long kicking can't be good, and that's when it stays in play.

Obviously a keeper is there to keep the ball out of the net. Joe's great at that, and he's a special keeper, no question. But it seems pretty reasonable to cast around for alternatives. One long term injury after the transfer window has closed and we'd be up shit creek.

I don't think Pep would agree with that statement.

Even if Hart wins us the Champions League final on penalties, I would still replace him. You need 11 footballers in a football match not 10.

Maybe. But it might be a good idea to get on the same page with your defenders and get so.e practice in the art of playing out of the back. Clearly almost none of our defenders like it. And they mostly get flustered under the slightest of pressure.

Certainly not the time or team Joe needs to be showing off his ball skills with. Wait till we have Larpote, Stones, Denayer and Bernat as the back 4, then he can pass it out all he wants.
