Completely agree with you, I can understand the club are unwilling to pay 50m but to let Zinchenko leave before he has been replaced is utterly bizarre.

Zinchenko wanted more game time but at the end of the day he is under contract and we could have insisted he stayed until a new LB was acquired.
I think we have proven several times we aren't going to keep people here who don't want to.

Txiki hasn't gone behind Peps back and sold Zinchenko. Everyone knew it was a risk but seemed comfortable with doing it. That's good enough for me.

He might turn down Chelsea which could force Brighron back into negotians with City.

Cucurella burned his bridges with Brighton after handing in a transfer request. He can’t stay there now.
City don’t value him enough to get him.
Chelsea comes calling, paying the money and makes him a great personal offer. In no reality would he turn Chelsea down and put his entire career at stake, in case we do up our bid. He’s gone. And yes it’s a huge fkng mistake imo.

How could they have handled it better in your opinion?
Wasted a lot of time and effort on yet another player we had zero chance of obtaining for the fee we were prepared to pay ( same with Kane last season)

No issue with the club not paying above our valuation but why fuck about for so long with a deal that would never be accepted?

They way zinchenko was upset, I don't think he didn't want to be here. He would have got enough playtime with world cup and all

For those people think Cucucrella is not worth 50M.
Cucucrella 2021/22 stats at Brighton:

Defending:
+ Tackle won: 62/88, 1st rank at BHA (McAllister 51, Bissouma 50, Cancelo 54/89)
+ Successful pressures: 201, 1st rank at BHA (McAllister 199, Bissouma 146, Cancelo 119)
+ Block: 72, 1st rank at BHA (Veltman 65, Cancelo 45)
+ Interception: 72, 1st rank at BHA (Veltman 67, Bissouma 65, Cancelo 75)

Attacking (keep in mind Cucucrella played 10 games at LCB, Cancelo always high up the pitch), and playing for BHA not best attacking force in the league as City
+ Chance create: 42 (Cancelo 39)
+ Successful cross: 29 (25,2%), Cancelo 20 (16,1%)
+ Key pass: 43 (Cancelo 39)

BHA bought him at 18M, City bid 30M is a joke, 40M still too low

Like Bernardo?

Zinchenko was very low maintenance and after the way we looked after him last season he owed us and as soon as a replacement was in, he could leave with our best wishes.

Getting emotional about leaving his mates is one thing. Being happy about being at best second choice for any position on the pitch is another.

He's probably also doubled his wages and got a nice signing bonus.
