For us to want him we must rate him and surely the going rate for a squad member of ours has got to be £40 million.
Then given his contract length and Brighton reluctance to sell they have added on an extra £10 million.
I honestly don’t think this is, oh it’s City let’s ask for an extra £10 million they will just pay it (we have a rep of walking away from deals).
It is you overpay because we don’t want to sell and don’t have to or we keep him, either way happy.
I think we messed up going £30 million, I think we thought as we had the player onboard, transfer request we would anchor the bid low, so that £40 million would seem acceptable.
It has not worked and going from £30 - £50 is such a big jump it’s hard to be shown to do it. If we had bid £40 million first I think we would have had a better communication with Brighton and the ability to go up without it effecting badly.
Not seeing loads of clubs saying push up your prices it’s Chelsea.
Our board get a lot right and Haaland must have been a tough deal to do (given everyone wanted him). So my views are simply that and the board will no doubt have further considerations.
Let’s see how we are once the window shuts. I feel we are missing one up front, but can accept it to give Palmer/McAtee (?) chances.
However, defence we are 1, arguably 2 short and so need at least 1 as we always get injuries.
