To be fair to Brighton the price for FB's under contract has been around £50m for a few years now. Us with Walker, Mendy, Cancelo, Chelsea with Chilwell, United similar with AWB.

If £40m was our ceiling I'm surprised if we thought we had a chance.
Those players you've mentioned have at least some of the following qualities:

English
International experience
CL experience
PL experience
Playing at a good level in another country

Cucurella has 1 season in the prem...

Strange take.

On the whole they play good football and their fans aren’t a load of deluded nasty thugs like a number of other clubs I could mention.

I’d much rather have Brighton in the Prem than Burnley.
Great set up they’ve got. As long as they hold on to the manager, they’ll keep uncovering gems like Cucurella and Bissouma who the financially stronger clubs will want to buy for millions. It’s not so long ago Brighton nearly went altogether.

What a load of crap !!
Just because City don`t agree on the same valuation of player makes us arrogant ?
FFS grow a pair.
I`m glad you`re noy holding the purse strings at City.

Again totally missed my point mate.
I have already said City did good holding on to their value but Brighton always said the deal would be over 50 million. If we don’t intend to pay that much why waste time here and not go for someone we can afford and play from get go.

If you don’t realise that we are two days from the start of the league and have only two fullbacks and this could be an issue this season. Esp with Walker injuries

Indeed, we are correct with our response and could add to it further.

All decent full backs moving around Europe this Summer have gone for around £30m. Walker was an England international, had previously won Young Player of the Season and got into the Prem team of the year rated as the top right back in the Prem, played in the Prem for years and was no questions ready to play for a top side. Cancelo was a Portugal international already playing at a top side, had got into the Serie A team of the season rated as the top right back in Serie A… and we only paid £28m for Cancelo, not £60!

Cucurella has played for Eigar, Getafe and Brighton, got one international cap, and has had one good season in the Prem, and is a bit of a chance…

Whenever we’ve signed anyone at this level and where it’s a bit chancey whether they’d be of a high enough standard or not, we’ve spent between £20-40m-ish.

In fact, was deemed so good that he beat Sergio, in his first season for City, to YPoS

That “£60m fee” for Cancelo is a bit disingenuous.

Is it? He goes down as a 60m transfer, and Danilo as a 30m transfer. You can argue his fee was 31m if we got 1m for Danilo. Doesnt change anything. But as I understand it both clubs reported them as a 60m and 30m transfers.

When negotiating the seller sets their price & the buyer offers what their valuation is, Then discussions are held where a price is agreed, normally somewhere in the middle part.

On this occasion Bloom was not prepared to lower his valuation. You can't say we we were wasting time.

I think you’re reading too much into it. I just think we don’t value him as highly as Brighton/Chelsea.

Yeah maybe but if he was the one and we have no left back 53m for a player you going to get 8/10 years at the top level is weird?! Just maybe city rate JWB more than we think?

We bought Danilo for £26.5m on a 5 year deal. He’d be worth £21m on our books when we sold him.

Anything else is accountancy balance. He’s down as a €37m part exchange on Wikipedia, which seems €10-15m too high.

Anyone get the feeling Chelsea are just trying to piss us off ? Making big splashes by specifically targeting our own players plus anyone we show an interest in ? It seems like a tactic to me by the new owners

There new owner will get a shock when they see the income coming in ain’t going cover the wage bill last owner had to continue put money into the club and why they did have debt of over a billion!

It's specifically over £50m, I guess.

Is this the secret to being a poker player? Just refuse to communicate at the table, other than a few mutters and shoulder shrugs?

That Bloom guy is a genius.

Might of been better going in with 35m+addons with only week left in-the window l!? Going in so early gives Bloom to sit back and say nought! Going in later in the window might of actually got them talking instead of it all going through the media!

I’ll say more than a bit!

We paid £28m for Cancelo, and we received £32m for Danilo. They were two transfers in the same window for two players in the same position done between the same two clubs, but they were two seperate transfers.

We didn’t give Juve £28m plus Danilo thrown in out of the kindness of our hearts, we recieved the £32m for Danilo.
