This transfer is playing out in the same way as the Ben White to Leeds saga. On that occasion Leeds seemed to think £30m was a perfectly reasonable valuation that Brighton owner Tony Bloom didn't agree with.
Bloom politely declined it without much noise and kept his counsel until £50m was agreed with Arsenal 12 months later.

Cucurella is a very exciting, skilful young player with a brilliant attitude (you know that). In todays marketplace he's worth £50m all day long and will become a City favourite.
As a Brighton fan I'm expecting him to sign for City for an 'undisclosed' fee that we will never know, but will likely be £50m.

But let's face it, none of us really know what's happening.
In the same transfer window City signed Gundogan for £20m while United signed Pogba for £90m. They were probably both worth about £40m at the time.

To say Cucurella worth £50m after one good season is stretching it. That’s more a Pogba valuation than a Gundogan one for me. You can’t value a player who’s had one good season and never been heard of before then and no other team is in for at anywhere near £50m. If he has another season like last, this coming season, then you can start talking about that sort of figure.

City have just sold our top goalscorer under Pep for £50m, and another player Pep always seemed to pick in the biggest games for £45m.

We also spent one pre-season saying how we overpaid for Ake who cost £41m. Similar sort of signing, probably won’t be first choice, team from the bottom half (although Ake was an international and was also wanted by two other Top4 clubs).

Its not naive. If you want Cucurella for £30m come back in 3 years when he has season left on his contact.
You are being naive if you want a seriously pissed off & unmotivated player who doesn't want you, rotting away at your club & lowering the team spirit.

Evidently you haven't seen the carnage caused by trying to keep someone against their will.

It's City policy. If a player wants to leave, we set a REALISTIC valuation & will do whatever it takes to facilitate that. I mean, we've just sold a 4 x PL, 3 x CC, 1 x FA Cup, Ukrainian national team captain for £32m.

We've also just sold a 4 x PL, 3 x CC, 1 x FA Cup Brazil international forward for for £45m

Again we've just sold a 4 x PL, 3 x CC, 1 x FA Cup England international forward for £47.5m

And Brighton want £50m for a 0 trophy 2 cap Spanish international reserve 12 months after buying him for £15m? Get real dude! :-/

Bloom isn't seriously expecting us to pay that, & we're not seriously expecting Bloom to accept £30m, but City are realistic, serious business people & it's best you look at how we conduct our transfers & accept we have respectful principles.

If those principles aren't reciprocated, we're more than prepared to walk away leaving the profiteering club to pick up the pieces with a seriously pissed off & unmotivated player. That's when you'll realise the effect one angry player can have on your whole club.

Carry on with it fella, but don't say we didn't warn you, as we've walked away from way bigger deals than Cucurella.

Al well and good but it’s on the selling club what they value them at. Not what we think.

Kane didn't have a good Euro 2020 either (Sterling was England's in form attacking player) : even with the national team getting to the semi final's of the tournament. His mind was probably on a move to City.

Conversely, a player is only worth what someone's willing to pay. City have consistently demonstrated that if a selling club's valuation far exceeds ours, we're more than prepared to walk away.

It's Cucurella I feel for, but hopefully City & Brighton will reach a compromise.

Has anotherbrighton fan been banned? I just tried to reply to his post and cannot.
I wanted to ask him if he thought that you had to come out of the womb a fan.He clearly doesn't think that you can become a fan although its quite clear that our Sheikh Mansour is definitely a fan from his actions. Who else would name their new boat "Blue"?
Should ban them all. They’re adding nothing to this forum apart from clogging up this thread by regurgitating the same waffle

Careful what you say about them, Ive had 4 or 5 deleted this morning and none of them were rude. Struggling to understand why one of them clearly said he was “invited” onto the forum? Have we got empty seats in the forum now?
It’s mad. Nothing shouts small time more than fans going onto another club’s forum to argue about a player they don’t want to lose to them. Weird

It’s pretty weird it they’ve been invited in here too? Fucking annoying but worse things happen at sea (or maybe the phrase can be changed to worse things happen with seagulls)
