There's no way he's not good enough. I'd trust Pep's judgement over posters on here. Yes, including me, incredible as it seems. If, as believed, Pep and Txiki have been after him all summer, that says something.
I haven't seen enough of him to say how good he is but I assume that he is a quality player if we want him. The player at Brighton that really impressed me, on the few occasions I saw them play ,was their right back (Lamptey or something?).

It does appear that we have been after him quite strongly but only to a certain price. If we had really valued him that highly, we would have paid the £50M presumably. It's not like we haven't paid similar amounts for FBs before.

Perhaps we had a few options, of which Cucurella was our favourite but only up to a certain price point. Beyond that we maybe think one of the other options is a better bet.

I think this one is over mate.

We hit an impasse, where all three parties were pissed off, entrenched and unwilling to budge - at which point Chelsea got all Ed Woodward on this thing and turned up with the full asking price, no negotiation, and tied up the deal.

I don’t think the Club have any appetite to up their bid - and I support them completely in that!

If Cucurella does show a willingness to move to Chelsea, that will be the point City truly walk away and then it really Will be over. The club want a player to be patient and commited to joining us, once they think he is, any sign of needing further convincing and the game's a bogey.

Chelsea can be prepared to pay their valuation all they want, if the player isn't up for going there, then still between us and Brighton to agree a fee, and they have a stronger hand to play. If he is tempted to move there, then they can take it from there, and we'll find another.

I was replying to someone who said that Brighton had said £30m, thats not correct. At the end of the day we cant compete against top 6 sides with transfers. Brighton dont need to sell, so the onky way they can try to keep the best player is to try to over price him to put clubs off. We are not the first club to do this and we will not be the last. Yes this becimes risky for the club attracting young players, but that uz diwn to the club to sort out.

If he had a £50m buy clause, would City have paid that?

You say its Brighton being greedy, but if its true Chelsea are willing to pay that then its not is it, ive always said a player is only worth what the buying will pay for him, it looks like Chelsea think hez worth it.
Thought Brighton fans would of fucked off to the Chelsea forum by now think it’s called The Shed, and told them chavs he’s definitely worth £55m or whatever that prick Bloom wants.

Agreed Lamptey has impressed whenever I see him. Pity he's a RB/RWB. Then again, what would they want for him? At least the same as Cucurella?

The lunatics have taken over the asylum. We had Zin, Cancelo, Ake and Bendy to cover Lb. One is heading to jail and the other has been sold.

Only 2 things will happen between now and the window closing. 1 city will sign a lb or 2 city will not buy a lb. The manic hysteria will not make any difference. If we have to go with what we have now then so be it.

City Might sign a RB too. Instead of a LB. 3 things, arguably.

Spot on mate.

And it seems he’s absolutely willing to go there, as they’re in advanced talks.

Why wouldn’t he? He’s clearly desperate to get out of Brighton, and he’s got an offer from an ambitious club playing in the CL, gets to live in London, and will play regularly so has a much better chance of getting in his National team in a World Cup year.

Given we aren’t willing to meet Brighton’s valuation, he’d be crazy not to go to Chelsea.

So be it? We play a lot of games and get a lot of injuries. In defence we seem to be unlucky with injuries especially. So to go into the season with less numbers than last year wouldn’t be wise for me. Throwing players in out of position isn’t the permanent answer. Nor should it be with a club of our size now and it’s resources

We will sign a LB. or a RB. It would be madness to go into the season with what we have, it would be irresponsible. And the club aren't mad or irresponsible so it won't happen.

Anyone justifying the idea of going into the season with 18 regustered players, 3 spare spots, and 19 in total out of a possible 25, is well and truly lost.

Cancelo is not or ever will be a left back, we could rotate walker and cancelo in the right back role
I think there are games when Cancelo’s ability to come inside and join the midfield are needed and would continue to be used at left back, other times he’d rotate with Walker. His ability on both side is why we can get away with 3 full backs as long as we get another left back.

If we want quality that strengthens the side over a long season, then it costs.

It would be very disappointing if we baulk at paying about £50m to improve a clear weakness in our squad then Chelsea end up paying it and he improves them.

Not only does it make us vulnerable to even one injury to Cancelo or Walker over a 60 game season, but it makes us look smalltime while big bollocks Chelsea just pay what it takes.

If we don't get a strong full-back (or two!) in this summer, it will be the second season in a row where we have failed to recruit in an obviously-lacking position due to the board putting all our eggs into one basket which we had an unrealistic expectation of carrying home in the first place. I know the window goes on, I know it worked out well with Kane, but it's mad that our CB policy since not replacing Kompany has been so strong (bringing in Dias and Ake, refusing to sell either without a high price and a replacement lined up) while our policy in other positions has been so weak.

If Cucurella is the one, buy him. If we can afford to cross him off the list, go and buy at least one strong option as fast as possible. We already feel behind on pre-season training, we can't afford to be playing silly beggars so close to the season.

Spoiled, maybe, but having gone through this exact saga with Kane last year, it can get a little tiring.

Last thing we want to do is bring Haaland in but have a shaky defensive squad and no pace/width around him.
