Just scored a cracker for Lille, after getting an assist a few minutes earlier. Showed strength and speed to break away from his man, before curling it in from outside the box, lovely solo goal

Do you genuinely believe he has what it takes Oscar, for example,is he potentially at Nasri or better level?
I do, but I think it's hard to show at Lille, as he genuinely never gets the ball and when he does, no one ahead of him moves. As soon as there is any movement and interplay, he looks excellent, but that's so rare. He has what we don't have, in directness. The goal he scored today epitomised that. He picks the ball up 20 yards outside the box, shrugs off his man, runs at the back four then scores from outside the box. Our attacking options don't have that. He'd offer us a different option that we haven't really had since AJ left. Whether he can get the consistency to do it regularly, only time in our team will tell, but I can't see why not. The more he gets the ball, the better and he'd get plenty of it for us.

For the record, Origi is one of the worst players I've ever seen.

Totally agree with this. They struggled to get him in the game in the first half. The problem is there is no composure from any of the defence or Mavuba so the ball is just being hoofed forward to nobody. Added to the they have nobody to hold the ball up. Why Origi was out wide I don't know. He has no awareness at all. Having said that, Rony made the best of it and every time he got the ball he looked dangerous. He has that rare ability to run quickly with the ball whilst always being in control. Added to that he has his head up so can see passes and always produces the correct weight of pass. The way he took the goal suggests he can pretty much place it in the corner every time. Great technique! Did anyone notice he got booked for being elbowed in the face??? Honestly I think Nasri should be looking at this performance and worrying because Rony can add directness and pace as well as a far higher work ethic.

I have no idea, I found it on the soccer reddit forum, they tend to be really good for putting up gifs of goals quickly :p

Cheers Pudge for putting it up!

Lopes and Denayer just have to be involved next season. If they don't its pretty fair to presume that no one will anytime soon as they're doing everything they have to and they're both quite clearly £20m+ potential players.

Think Lopes should, he has surprised me as I didn't think he would be like this.

Surely Denayer though is better to go and play 35 games in a better league next season than 8 for us in the carling cup?

Have you seen our defence at the moment? :P

Denayer would be first choice if he was with us at the moment.

if we keep him as third choice next season after Kompany and Mangala or new CB + Mangala (a slight possibility), he will get a good share of games. Not 35+, but closer to 20 I guess

Lopes will make it at City if we get rid of the dead wood that is blocking him at the moment. Navas, Milner, Lampard and Jovetic wont be here next season so he has to take one of those positions in the squad. When he was injured Lille where really struggling but since hes come back they have dramatically improved. Hes got a bit to go to be a 1st team player but like others have said, he has what Nasri and Silva dont, the ability to run at players and beat them.

You look at other top teams and they all have players who can pick the ball up deep and beat men, whereas we dont. That is what we are lacking big time. Chelsea have Hazard, Liverpool have Sterling, Arsenal have Sanchez and Walcott. Thats just the prems top teams. Lopes is not at that standard yet but hes the best player to come from the academy since Sturridge.

La Voix du Nord: Lille hope to loan Rony Lopes for another year. City haven't ruled it out but want to extend his contract before deciding.

I think whatever we do we absolutely have to extend his contract.

If he does go on loan again we will miss out on him becoming homegrown, he will come back to us aged 21 having only been at City for 2 seasons.

I personally think we should bringing him into the squad.

If we loan him out again then we may as well move the academy forum to the "general football" section, as it will mean there really isn't any link between them and the Man City first team. I'd be shocked if he's not part of the squad next year and hugely dissapointed.

It isn't just that can run from deep and go past people but he is also more of a goalscorer than Nasri or Silva.

A must for the squad next season.

Because of Rony, could we even cash in on Nasri? while using that money to buy a much more useful orthodox winger?

That scenario satisfies a couple of our issues.

I don't think it would necessarily have to be a winger if we were to change the system to a 433 of some form then a player like Dybala to play as a wide forward or as a striker would be a good idea because of his skill, directness and speed.

I thought because he was our player it didn't matter that he was loaned out he will still be home grown, not only that his birthday is December so if he goes out on loan again when he returns he will still only be 20 and have 6 months until he turns 21 so it all would depend on when we signed him
