Marcos Lopes

Loan periods have no effect on whether a player counts as 'homegrown' or not. It's how long he has been City's player which counts, whether he actually plays here or not. He's our player since 2011, so he will count as club trained provided we get him signed up to a new contract & keep him at the club.
 
I wouldn't loan him out abroad, I'd loan him to a premiership team that plays lower down in the league. Someone like sunderland who try and play fairly decent football.

Maybe he could replace Adam Johnson for them?

Hope he signs another contract, but realistically he may look at the club's definition of holistic with a large degree of scepticism - really amazed to see Scott Sinclair getting game/squad time ahead of EDS lads
 
I'm pretty sure he'll sign a new deal. He's a good, down to earth, hard working lad and clearly enjoys it here, he doesn't strike me at all of the type to do a Sturridge or Pogba. But we need to give him a chance, not just for him, but for the other young players behind him(some of whom probably don't have such good attitudes). I thought he should have stayed and been in the squad this year, but there is really no excuse at all not to have him in next year.
 
I think it depends on Rony himself & what kind of player he wants to be. If he sees himself as a Silva or Nasri kind of player, who is basically there to create stuff & do a token covering job, then he is at this time, going to be putting himself up in a competition vs them or even new signings who do a similar job.

To get a regular place, he would have to create more then Silva etc do. That's a tough ask for a kid, & is likely to land him on the bench a lot.

If however, he can do a bit of what Silva does, but runs his bollocks off for the team, & nicks a few goals, imo he becomes a genuine rival to Silva or Nasri & maybe to Bony or Dzeko.

As a 19 year old, he has an advantage over them in that respect. Scoring goals isn't easy & you can't guarantee it. But you can guarantee hard work.

My message to him would be to work really really fucking hard on the pitch when he gets his chance. If he does, he will get in City's team & the rest will happen for him. Ability on its own is good. Ability plus workrate is absolutely priceless & what we are crying out for.
 
He could do the Jovetic / Lampard role next year, he is not going to get in the no10 slot or second striker ahead of Silva etc but there are enough games in a season for him to get time on the pitch to make a mark. I wouldn’t mind a loan though as being realistic his development would go 1 of 2 ways with us, a carefully chosen loan is a safer option.

I'm generally quite a calm watcher of football in recent years, something that came from the takeover and the understanding that long term we're going to be fine. But that was one moment where I totally lost my rag and blew up. We had EDS lads on the bench at (I recall perhaps badly) 4-1 up and he brought on Lampard with 25 minutes to go and Sinclair with 10 minutes to go. Made a post the same day on here suggesting that I was done with Pellegrini in terms of his youth development and will be branding that part of his job as a total failure from then on.

I remember that game very well. I along with many others around me had exactly the same thoughts. It was so infuriating.

I shared that frustration,it was a perfect opportunity and he mysteriously chose to do different,a bit of a watershed in fact.

If we're to write off one of the best U20 attacking midfielders in Europe at the age of 19, who exactly has a chance? We may as well give up on the whole youth project. Lopes already broke through to Portugal's U21 side last year and outshines Liverpool's £10m signing Origi whenever they're on the pitch together. He is far from the finished product, but the natural talent is there to be a superb player.
 
I have no evidence, no facts and figures for either of you to mull over, it's just an opinion
I also don't think Pozo will make it here either

They are both good players but I really don't think they will make it here

I hope Barker will, I think Denayer might and have high hopes for Ambrose and Maffeo

You really don't know if a player will make it at any club unless you give them game time over a long period of time, with this manager none of them have a cat in hells chance at making it here!!

Pozo i dont think will for physicality reasons. Slow and a bit weak - Lopes i think will for the exact opposite reason. He's strong, quick and Aguero-esque in build.

Correct but dont think that will be a problem for long.

Assuming we have a manager who will gives players a chance I agree with SF that Pozo wont make it but Lopes will,think Maffeo will and I have high hopes for Evans.Denayer a possibility.
