Mark Hughes' exit from Manchester City

By the way, I'm not particularly pleased that Hughes seems to have given up on 3rd place.

We've beaten Asrenal and Chelsea and frightened Liverpool and Man United.

Is he managing the owner's expectation here? Or justifying his own failures?

I think a lot of his recent comments show how insecure he is and he's insecure because he knows the results aren't good enough. He's saying Liverpool are the target now because Liverpool are doing badly and it will at least bide him some time to try and get some better results. When Liverpool inevitably put a run together, if we still haven't got our house in order I expect his story will change again and we won't be hearing about Liverpool being the target

I am seeing signs he is feeling the pressure too. That cocksure manner he had in the summer has evaporated. I've never seen him look so upset as he was after the Bolton game.

I get the feeling he knows the axe could fall sooner rather than later if he's not careful.

I always thought he'd be given all season regardless. Now I'm not quite so sure about that.

did anyone notice in the spurs press conference about people having their opinions on forums? does anyone think he comes on here? and then sees all the hughes out threads

Top 6 may have been the target on May 16th but after the transfer window when Hughes had openly admitted that we'd spent more than we originally planned and crammed 3 worths of spending in transfer windows into one summer then targets change. Do you really think Tevez, Adebayor, Toure, Barry and Lescott all came with the manager sitting down and telling them that our target this season was the top six when 3 of those players had just come from clubs in the champions leauge and playing in the top four and the other two from teams who finished in the top 6?

Even so as someone else pointed out earlier Liverpool's poor form this season makes the top four an even more realistic target than it was at the start of the season and we need to take advantage

Some people would be delighted with the top 6 whereas i wouldn't. We have the quality to get into the top four and when you take into account how poor Liverpool have been i have even more reason to think thats where we should be aiming to finish at the very least

At this stage last season how many points did the 4th place team have? Can't seem to find what the table was like last season at this stage but would be interested to see how many points 4th place had then compared to this season

Believe it - our owners are not stupid, they are strategic business thinkers and they will not fall into the hands of people 'telling' them what is best for them....
If they were that strategic they'd realise very quickly that a choice between Mourinho and Hughes is an absolute no brainer. Even some of Hughes's most ardent backers on here (de niro for one) recognise that.

can't argue with you, jose all day long for me, mind you it would be the case regardless of who we had now, not just Sparky.

Arsenal had played 16 with 29pts last season. Currently City have played 15 with 26pts so nothing in it.

Cheers for that, been looking for a table for ages and couldn't find anything
