Marseille (H) - CL | Post-Match Thread

Only BT can $hit on our parade with an ominous warning of tough fixtures ahead in 3 months time in the middle of a game in progress.
Or constantly analyse what the foreign opposition need to do to get a result against us. And that 20 year old Phil Foden has only started 4 out of 10 Premier league matches this season

It was a perfect opportunity to play the kids,if not from the start,at least for half hour.Im not looking for problems,im stating fact.
Youll probably be one of the first to complain when these kids stagnate/fuck off elsewhere.
Couldn't agree more. If they don't get a sniff in a dead rubber when players are being rested for the derby, then when?

We have just conceded the least number of goals in Champions league group stages that we've ever managed.
Couldn't ask for more from Pep tonight not exciting but no goals again conceded again.

Our defence seems well and truly sorted out.
I think it's quite clear that Pep is really pushing for the team to be tighter in Europe, it's where we've been undone in past seasons.

There’s much more to picking a team in the CL than giving kids a chance. Namely stuff like this. That’s a huge amount of money during a pandemic. Personally I think it’s of greater worth to bag nearly €3m for a nights work.

The whole group stage was a big success, but pretty dull. That, I am afraid, is the perfect manner in which to dispatch of 6 slightly pesky games. Tis modern football

I'm like many, I would have loved to have seen some young lads given at least a half, I do think it's quite harsh. Not to doom monger but they must see players at Liverpool, Dortmund and others getting time and think "maybe I can". BUT you have to remember pep is a perfectionist and there was something still at stake to play for 3rd, and pep is very honourable etc.

The 1st half was turgid, second much better. Ake and Torres were poor for me, the former coming back from inquiry and the latter is not quite firing for me (though he keeps scoring!). Foden is going through a wobble. Im also a bit worried about Bernardo. Dinho was a working machine, Stones is growing in confidence....Given the evidence we look like a very solid unit in Europe at the moment.

How are they going to shape themselves if they don’t play?

If they can’t be afforded 10/20 minutes in a fixture with nothing at stake and in a season where there are additional substitute numbers, when are they going to get that opportunity?
Theres a derby at stake, more important to get Aguero up and running, kids will benefit from experience of watching a solid team performance.

It was a perfect opportunity to play the likes of Laporte, Ake, Dinho, Bernardo, Foden, Torres full 90 minutes and also give minutes to Raz and Kun. First team comes first. You can't play the kids at the expense of senior players when the latter are fit and need to play to be ready to help the first team. Why sub Bernardo or Torres or Dinho to play Palmer or Doyle or Bernabe when the former want to play and need to play?
