Martinez could be set for assistant managers role

Can't see this myself. Martinez has his own furrow to plough. Face it he could go to say Everton and work wonders and STILL then be a shoe in for the City job without having to have taken the potential backward step of becoming a number 2. Having seen Pellegrini on SSN cant even say he would need Martinez to help with the press as he seems to speak English better than Roberto does !!!!

on a plane to Manchester this morning according to Malaga fans

a management/coaching team of 3 would not be unrealistic though - 1 assistant who MP knows well and 1 assistant who knows the PL well?

Like when Bobby came he brought Platt and we brought in Kidd who knew the club and the people

yes indeed, and the upside is that none of them have ever slagged us to fuck in the media like Platt used to do

Can't see him going to an assistant role to be honest. He's a very decent manager and if was to leave Wigan he'd definitely find a decent job.

Can't imagine why Martinez wouldn't take the opportunity if presented. It took Moyes ten years before stepping up a level, and Martinez is unlikely to find another Chairman as benevolent and fans as accepting as he has enjoyed at Wigan. The short-lived nature of managing in England means recent success is just history, and that you could soon be out of work if results run differently. With us he'd be experiencing new environments with better players and would bypass the 5-10 year wait for a top position.

It would be a surprise for sure, but if it was with the view that he'd been told that he'd be in line after Pelligrini you could maybe see why that's preferable to Everton (no disrespect).

Still think it's highly unlikely though.

I could see this, it would make some sense.

Pellegrini is 59, and having a younger very good and promising manager like Martinez working under him to a point where he seamlessly takes over does work in with the holistic theme. And why wouldn't Martinez want to do that when it nigh on guarantees him the managerial role in soon to be one of the world's top sides.

Because if Pellegrini gets sacked, he will likely get sacked too?

I'd love to see this happen, but in my heart of hearts I just don't believe it's likely

Since we seem to be undergoing a complete managerial shake up, the powers that be may want to have someone who can step up from within, ala Barcelona, rather than have to change everything again in two years.

I can. Martinez could take the Everton job and find himself in exactly the same position Moyes found himself in. Everton have hit the glass ceiling and Martinez can't possibly do a better job than Moyes has done, given the resources available to him and the likely sale of the likes of Fellaini and Baines. He's still young don't forget, and two years learning about life at a top club, followed by a certain and smooth progression into one of the best jobs in world football today must be an attractive proposition for the fella.
