Mata ... Available ..... Really ?

All I'll say is, Mata could have walked to Carrington in the time it's taken to get this chopper up north.

Wednesday it seemed he'd be in before the end of United's slap stick comedy show.
Thursday, Mata was all set for a medical and the deal 'extremely' close.
Friday, still no deal, reportedly Chelsea yet to receive an offer. Seems to have gone from extremely likely to likely.

Oh and the small matter of United haven't actually made an offer but a 'third party' has.
Mata has told his friends he's leaving Chelsea, yet earlier in the week he'd told friends he was going to Manchester.

For a deal that seemed so simple, it actually seems very complicated.

I see Mata there sooner rather than later. Like most I am enjoying the emphasis put on his doubled wages..

In terms of their attacking play this is a great deal for utd.....without question he is a quality player

However a near 40m lay out on one player would be for any team be a huge part of their potential transfer budget for a financial year surely?

There are other areas they need to drastically spend on especially defensively....evra, Ferdinand are finished as key players , the fullbacks are weak and no matter what the media say the keeper is a disaster waiting to happen (the other night being a prime example - funny how they have not concentrated on that "howler" which was far far worse than anything Joe Hart did during his dip in form)

With a near 40m lay out already will they have much funds to spend anywhere else? - unless they sell (rooney being the prime candidate and no matter how much of a scum bag he is he is still a dangerous player and getting rid of him would potentially weaken them).

I think on SKy sorts the other night they were putting up figures that in the summer utd spen on average around 60m.......will they still be able to do that this summer with 40m gone before they even get there?????

If they can be just kept out o the top 4 this year then they are on a very dangerous slippery slope...we just need the likes of everton, Liverpool us Chelsea and spurs not to let them back in

The sense is that he isn't worth half of the £37m fee United will reportedly pay. My house is worth X amount. If someone stupid enough comes to me and says 'oi, you. I'll give you XXX amount for your house because i'm a daft ****', i'm going to stare at him in shock, then quickly and somewhat in an excitable panic get the contracts drawn up, then laugh my currently overweight arse all the way to the bank.

That's why is makes sense. Add to that the fact United are bobbins and one player, in the position he plays in, won't change that - makes even more sense. It's brilliant by Chelsea, especially if they reinvest their money for 2 other players. It also means that today will be a non-stop piss take out of United - again.

If Mata makes just enough difference for them to scrape top 4 then IMO Chelsea have made a mistake. Not in terms of this season, obviously united are no threat to Chelsea this season but if they make top 4 then they have got out of jail. They will be much more likely to keep van persie and rooney, they will still be a reasonably attractive proposition in the summer for decent players and after a scare like this they will be extremely proactive in making sure they sort their sqaud out. If they miss out on top 4 then I think everything changes for them. Who will they be able to attract if they have no CL and on top of that players see the likes of rooney and van persie jumping ship (which they would)? I think Chelsea are being extremely short sighted tbh considering united have pretty much always been the team who have battled them for the title and it is a potentially one off opportunity for Chelsea to rid themselves for a good while of a long term rival. Hopefully you're right and Mata won't be enough to make much of a difference but then I look at the other teams going for 4th and I honestly think if they can get their strikers fit and mata in then they have every chance, sadly.
Well without sounding too cocky about it, I would say we are guaranteed a top 3 finish, as are Chelsea and Arsenal. That leaves 1 spot left, and I would say Spurs or Liverpool, (especially Liverpool), will get that. I can't see how Mata signing for them will change their fortunes enough to all of a sudden propel them into favourites for that top 4 spot. Chelsea have no use for Mata, they more than likely can see United won't make 4th, and can see a huge profit on a player they don't want. It makes every sense for them to sell. IMO.

I hope you're right. If united sign him and still miss out on 4th then it is a great bit of business by Chelsea but if it allows united to pip Liverpool, Spurs and Everton which really isn't that big a stretch of the imagination then Chelsea (and us) will regret this ludicrous decision in a year or two when we look back and realise Chelsea gifted united the chance to get themselves out of the shit and buy themselves some time to address the issues in their squad. IMO united are utterly fucked if they miss out on 4th this year, that's why they are paying over the odds for Mata, they understand that the landscape is changing and that this is a chance to avert disaster. It's a shame the fucking spunk bubbles at Chelsea (particularly Mourinho who for some strange reason appears to want united to stay in the top 4) don't appear to realise the potential advantage of having a rival as huge as united (apologies) really thrown into turmoil. And it's not as if they couldn't get a decent fee for Mata elsewhere, not 37 million admittedly but they get 25-30 no danger.

Some reds I know, decent match going ones who enjoy the banter, say they are prepared for one season out of the CL, prepared financially I mean. Not sure how true that is, however.
I see it as a disaster in terms of them being able to attract top names, and of course losing the few they still have, which in turn will lead to them missing out on CL football the following season, which is when the real shit will take hold.
Mata or no Mata, I can't see them winning between a battle of them, Spurs and Liverpool. I hope Liverpool get it to be honest.

God I hope you're right because I'm not kidding, I'm going to cry like a fucking baby if those bastards get top 4.
