Matija Nastasic will join Schalke on loan until the end of the season. They'll have an option to buy him for £9.4m when his loan ends

Its something I suppose (assuming they are paying all his wages), but not a 'great deal' from our end is it?

Goal are reporting that Schalke have agreed to pay all of his 75k a week wages....

Schalke agree deal with Manchester City for Nastasic

Schalke have reached an agreement with Manchester City over a deal for defender Matija Nastasic, Goal can reveal.

The centre-back, who has fallen out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, will join the German club initially on loan but with a view to a £10 million permanent transfer in the summer.

Goal understands Roberto Di Matteo's side, who are currently fifth in the Bundesliga table, will pay Nastasic's £75,000-a-week wages in full during the six-month loan period.

Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing over the past two weeks, with Schalke unable to afford a permanent transfer in January and having only been willing to pay £8m for the Serbia international.

The Bundesliga club have, however, now agreed to meet City's £10m valuation at the conclusion of the 2014-15 campaign, when they will have more funds available for transfers.

Nastasic has been frozen out at City and has only featured in one game thus far this season - the 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal back in August.

The 21-year-old was initially offered to Premier League rivals Tottenham and Arsenal back in November for a cut-price fee but is now set to complete a switch to Schalke with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
I suppose that could mean that a conditional guarantee has been agreed to regarding the £10 mill permanent switch in summer, similar to negredo's?

Would be good imo, as it would put us £35-£40 mill better off in the summer which could be put towards signings :)

West Ham apparently trying to hijack the deal and willing to offer more money, can't see him choosing them over schalke tho.

Don't think he'll have a choice if there is more money involved for us

Some rumours on Twitter suggesting Schalke deal has fallen through, and that West Ham are now favourites to sign him. Not sure I believe it though.

Schalke chairman Clemens Tönnies has revealed to the media that his club will NOT be signing Matija Nastasic. #whufc

He doesn't strike me as a typical Allardyce central defender but it might help Nasta get his career back on track.

If Allardyce can get him performing again they will have one of the best young defenders in the game and a potential £20m-£25m defender in the future, that's why West Ham are interested.

If West Ham want to buy him now and pay more, then all the better for us. Presumably a Winston Reid replacement?

Agreed, but Allardyce said he didn't expect Winston Reid to be a WHU player come the end of the season as he's delaying signing a new contract and his deal runs out June 30th. He said he'd heard rumours in football circles that Reid would be off in the summer and separate reports say he's rumoured to be a free target for Arsenal.

Reid's not a typical BFS type CB, so the Nastasic rumours may have legs if it's correct that Schalke have pulled out. Allardyce was warned at the end of last season that WHU wanted an end to his clogger style of 18th century football and for the team to play attractive football and for better results. They told him Teddy Sheringham was being brought in as a striker coach and that he had this season to make it work, so perhaps under pressure a leopard can change its spots after all......

If he does go to West Ham then it's still a suitable destination for both us and the player but I doubt Allardyce has changed all that much.
