I feel similarly and like City, we also have just one player currently under Raiola management - Xavi Simons. Like Sandler, they are young so the demands from an agent like pizza boy are non-aggressive but that will quickly escalate once they enter into the first team. Txiki et al have experience with Raiola and it's a sound approach to minimize deals involving him

Lots of noise, lots of ‘could he go here, could he go there’, but ultimately he went where everyone thought he’d go in the first place, and the agent probably did jolly well from it, too.. The de Jong thread made 207 pages, so by that standard Barcelona should be unveiling him fairly soon. ;-)

Yeah, it does feel very familiar with FDJ - big difference is Raiola of course. He is an x-factor that makes it a very difficult transfer to gauge. Pretty sure it's a matter of days now

Excellent post.
In the Amazon documentary we saw how important the relationship is between Txiki and the agents when sorting out a new deal for Fernandinho.
Txiki said 'he's a good man and easy to deal with'. Contract extension sorted!
I would love de Ligt but what we don't need is a circus, like we had with Yaya every summer.
 
Hopefully we can try and deal with mino as a selection of De Ligt, Laporte, stones and Garcia sets us up for years at CB!
 
Assuming MDL plays tonight, he'll probably not have a perfect game whilst Maguire will trip over his own feet and accidentally cause a ball to deflect toward a guy who passes to a guy who scores due to a complete goalie flub en route to an England win and everyone here then will be off MDL for good.
 
Following my post on Monday I just re-checked Skybet to look at how their transfer odds for De Ligt has changed since then, we have drifted even further and Liverpool have shortened to joint second favourites with the rags, Barca still favourites :

Barca was 1.91 now 2.1
Rags was 2.20 now 5.0
Liverpool was 11.0 now 5.0
PSG was 15.0 now 7.0
City was 17.0 now 26.0
Bayern was 26.0 now 34.0
RM was 26.0 now 34.0

But that would be spending big money to strengthen where they don't need it. They improve more by spending the money on a creative midfielder or two, and back up so they can rotate their front 3 more. They conceded 21 getting De Ligt won’t improve that by enough to be worth the wages he wants.

Matip isn't the youngest. We didn't need Mahrez last season but you've always got to spend to improve in every area. Having De Lift and Van Dijk as a partnership for 10 years could be in their thinking. Both play there for their countries.

Van Dijk is already the best around at the moment. Having a player alongside with the potential to be even better, and then Robertson the best LB around at the moment on current form. Trent also one of the best attacking full backs with a record breaking amount of assists for a RB. Name me a better defence? There isn't one, and they would be all very young too.

No idea about a better defence, but I'm not arrogant enough to say it's the best in the world as I only watch the English league.
